Divisions are the dividing of lands, money or anything of value by the
heirs (often the children or even grandchildren) of an individual who
often did not leave a will and so his estate was settled in various ways
including a divisions of the estate.
Provisions are a years value of food given to the widow for herself and
any minor children living with her. She applies for this and is given food
on hand as well as sometimes the value in money to purchase her years
provisions.
Dower is the property whether real or personal that a widow brought into
the marriage. Also from 1784 to 1869, the widow in her dower got 1/3 of real
property owned by her husband at his death for her lifetime as a widow.
