RICHARD WEST KING

The burial of the late Richard W. King took place at 3 o'clock last
Thursday evening. Service being conducted by Rev. Israel Harding, of
the Protestant Episcopal Church, in Kinston. He was buried in the
family graveyard adjoining the Kinston cemetery. A large concourse of
people white and colored, followed the remains to the grave. Years ago
he had been baptized into the faith of the Christian Religion by a
minister of the Disciples Church. How he kept that faith, it is no wish
of ours, to judge.
The iron safe of the late R. W. King was opened last Friday morning in
the presence of Anthony David, Esq. who is the only surviving executor
of the Will, the late A. G. Hubbard of New Berne, being the other
executor. Thirteen Thousand dollars in cash and Twelve thousand dollars
in well secured notes were found in the safe. His widow, Mrs. Susan
King, gets that portion of his estate assigned by the law. His adopted
Son, R. W. King, comes in for a special legacy of $500 in cash and a
plantation in Lenoir County on the south side of the Neuse River valued
at $2000. Miss Kate Brown gets a special legacy of $1500. The two
oldest children of Wm. W. N. Hunter get each $500. Mrs. Young's two
children get $200 each. Mrs. Mary Hunter, widow of Nicholas Hunter,
gets $1000. Mrs. Sophia West divides equally the balance of the estate.
Wm. Hunter and Mrs. Tiffany West, two of the children coming in for a
town lot each, more than the other children. The estate is valued at
$80,000. Of this $50,000 is real estate and $30,000 is personal
property.
