1857 Deed Miller B. Creech to Wheat Swamp Church Building Committee
Know all men by these presents that I, Miller B. Creech, of the County of
Lenoir, State of North Carolina, for and in consideration of the sum of Seven
Dollars and fifty cents, to me in hand paid by Parrott M. Hardy, Walter
Kennedy, Simon E. Hodges, Drewry Hill, Jr. of the aforesaid County and State,
and William White of Greene County, being a building committee, the receipt
and payment whereof is hereby acknowledged, have bargained, sold, and by these
presents do hereby bargain and sell to the aforesaid Committee, and to their
successors forever a piece or parcel of land being in Lenoir County and lying
in the fork of the Roads nearly opposite Wheat Swamp Meeting House, for the
purpose of building a Christian Church upon it, for the use of the Disciples,
beginning 1 poles above the well on Hull Road and run So. 36 Wst. 17 poles
to the other road to a post oak, thence down the road to the fork, thence up
Hull Road to the beginning, containing by estimation three fourths of an acre,
be the same more or less. And I the aforesaid Miller B. Creech, for myself
and heirs and assigns forever warrant, and defend, the right, title and
interest which I have in the above premises, unto the aforesaid Committee, and
their successors for ever, provided that no part or parcel of the aforesaid
piece of land shall ever be used for any other purpose but that herein named,
in such case, this contract shall be void and of no effect. Otherwise it
shall remain in full force and virtue. In testimony whereof, I have set my
hand and seal on this the 16th of March, in the year of our Lord one thousand
eight hundred and fifty seven.

The execution of the foregoing instrument was this day acknowledged before
me by Miller B. Creech, the grantor, for the purpose therein expressed.

The foregoing certificate, with private seal attached, of J.W. Brothers, a
