To the Editor -- Washington City, Feb. 8 -- A painful task devolves on me in 
announcing to you that GEN. THOMAS BLOUNT, a member from North Carolina, is no 
more. He departed this life last evening at half past eight o'clock. In his 
death, his friends have lost an inestimable companion, his consitutients a 
faithful represensative, and his county a genuine patriot. -- Petersburg
