A YOUNG MOTHER IS CALLED AWAY; MRS. JAMES COBB DIED EARLY THIS MORNING

Another saddening shock was visited upon this community this morning when it

was learned that Mrs. James E. Cobb had died at three o'clock. She was best

known here where she was reared as Sarah Brittain, being the youngest

daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. H. Brittain. Ten days ago she came to Roanoke

from her home in Tifton, Georgia with her husband and little two year old

son, William Brittain Cobb, to visit home folks. She was stricken with

appendicitis and taken to the local hospital for an operation one week ago.

Her progress toward recovery was most encouraging for awhile until

complications developed that baffled every effort to prolong the precious

life.

The patient remained bright and cheerful until she sank into coma a short

time before the spirit winged its flight away, leaving so many hearts

enveloped in inconsolable sorrow. The members of Mr. Cobb's family with whom

the deceased had made her home seemed to love her as tenderly as her own and

paid feeling tribute to her sweet christian character.

The solicitude of the hundreds of friends in Roanoke turned into sympathetic

sorrow, flowed out to the grief-laden ones in many ways, each one trying to

lift if it were possible, a little of the burden that bore them down. For

Sarah Brittain Cobb was loved by all who knew her, and the surviving members

of the family have many friends.

That one so young, whose promising life was closely knit to many others,

should be thus taken away, is unspeakably sad. Yet what a blessing that she

has lived, and while she has passed beyond the reach of time and sense, she

still shall live in the hearts and through the lives of those who knew and

loved her.

The funeral will be held at 10 o'clock Thursday morning at the Methodist

church, of which Mrs. Cobb had been a member. Interment will in the cemetery

of this city.
