Atkinson County Citizen - March 2006
 Dr. Tommy Keagan "T.K." Stapleton, age 78, of Douglas, GA passed away on 
Sunday, March 12, 2006, at home after an extended illness. Dr. Stapleton, a 
native of Dubuque Co, IA was born October 14, 1927, son of the late Charles 
Jabez & Rose Mary McCarty Stapleton. A WWII veteran of the US Navy, he was a 
practicing physician in Atkinson County and Coffee County for 50 years. He was 
a member of American Society of Arms Collectors, former member and president of 
Rotary Club (25 years perfect attendance), former President of GA Academy of 
Family Physicians, former Chairman of Joint Board of Family Practice, member of 
GA Academy of Education Foundation.
 Brother, Jim Stapleton preceded him in death.
 Survivors include by his wife, Linda McGovern Stapleton of Douglas, GA, sons, 
Charles (Deborah) Stapleton of Douglas, GA, Jim (Melissa) Stapleton of Douglas, 
GA; daughter, Ellen (Jerry) Pope of Douglas, GA; grandchildren, Keagan 
Stapleton, Callie Stapleton, Christy Stapleton, Ben Stapleton, Haley Pope and 
Austin Pope; brothers, Church Stapleton of Baltimore, MD and John Edgar 
Stapleton of Seattle, WA.
 Funeral services were held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at the Reedy 
Branch Baptist Church near Broxton, GA with Rev. Den Weniger officiating.
 The congregation sang "Amazing Grace" with Evelyn Weniger, pianist. Burial 
followed in the Douglas City Cemetery, 
 Active pallbearers, Benny Overstreet, Ken Corbitt, Johnnie Kight, Jimmy 
Atkinson, Bob West, Dr. Rodney Vickers.
 Sims Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
