WILL SLADE FORMER LOCAL RESIDENT DIES
Funeral services were held at Douglas last Thursday for William Samuel Slade, 
prominent business man and church leader of that city and a former resident of 
Ellaville, who died at the hospital there Wednesday morning after a long 
illness.  The Rev. Wade E. Scott officiated, and was assisted by the Rev. B.E. 
Donehoo.  For the past 20 years he has been in the lumber business and 
successfully operated plants at Hazlehurst, Broxton and two years ago moved to 
Douglas.  Born in Zebulon, he was married in early life to Miss Mattie Lou 
Howell of Thomaston, who survives him.  Along with four children, Mrs. Clyde 
Sinclair, of Douglas; Mrs. W.K. Hurst, of Indianapolis; T.E. Slade, of Baxley 
and Will S. Slade, Jr., U.S. Navy; four brothers, Arthur, of Edgefield, S.C.; 
Luther of Roberta; Jeff of Thomaston, and Ben of Brunswick, three sisters, 
Mrs. Albert Whittle, of Savannah; Mrs. A.A. Howell, of Lake City, Mrs. Lizzie 
McCord, of Pelham and four grandchildren.
