Mr. Rutherford, a native of Berrien Co., GA., was born January 19, 1924, the son of the late Jacob Jackson, Sr. and Erin Massey Rutherford. He was a World War II veteran of the US Army, a retiree with the State of Georgia Labor Department and a member of Douglas First Baptist Church. Survivors included: his wife, Ruby McMillan Rutherford of Douglas, GA; two sisters-in-law, Emily Dawkins of Tallahassee, FL, and Jean Lee of Newnan, GA; three brothers-in-law, Raymond McMillan of Atlanta, GA. Bethel McMillan of McDonough, GA and Jim Karras of Nashville, GA; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 11 am Thursday, July 8, 2004, at Douglas First Baptist Church, with Rev. Shep Johnson and Rev. Kevin Smith officiating. Soloist Galen Collins sang "Because He Lives" and the congregation sang "How Great Thou Art," with Louis Sinclair accompanying at the piano. Interment followed in the Douglas City Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Leland Mullis, Jerald Guthrie, Marvin Raines, Garland Thompson, Glen Hutchison, Mark Karras, Jim Karras and Marvin James Honorary pallbearers were Jesse Goodman, J. B. Oliff, Jeff Christopher, deacons of First Baptist Church, and members of Senior Men Adult Sunday School Class. Sims Funeral Home of Douglas was in charge of arrangements.
