Atkinson County Citizen - November 9, 2006
 Mrs. Florine Batten Purvis, age 79, of Douglas, GA passed away on Wednesday, 
October 11, 2006, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, GA. Mrs. 
Purvis, a native of Coffee County, GA was born May 1, 1927, daughter of the 
late Eddie and Ethel Day Batten. She was a homemaker and widow of the late 
Quitman Purvis. Her church membership was at the First Assembly of God. 
Sisters, Vernell Taylor, Mary Lee Mims, Jessie Mae Couch and Earline Simmons 
and brothers, H. L. Batten, Curtis Batten and Hoyt Batten preceded her in death.
 Survivors include; son, Raymond (Linda) Purvis, Pearson, GA, brothers, Edward 
(Mary Ann) Batten, Stockbridge, GA, Russell (Joy Lynn) Batten, Moniac, GA, 
Ralph (Dian) Batten, Ocala, FL, sister, Melba (Julian) Morris, Douglas, GA, 6 
grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, nieces and 
nephews.
 Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Friday, October 13, 2006 at the First 
Assembly of God Church with Rev. Marshall Adcock and Rev. Larry Johnson 
officiating. Michael Johnson and Zenda Adair sang, "I' Not Afraid" and "This 
Man Called Jesus," also soloist Tina Royals sang, "The Next Time You See Me" 
with Michael Johnson, pianist.
 Burial followed in the Salem Church Cemetery near Douglas, GA.
 Active pallbearers were, Byron Griffis, Tommy Deems, Virgil Batten, Wayne 
Perry, Rex Smith, Ronnie Anderson.
 Honorary pallbearers, Wayne Giddens, Glen Gardner, Don Holton, Andy Day, J.L. 
Anderson, Robert Futch, Buddy Harper, J.H. Truelove, Rex Smith, Buddy Hart, 
Buddy Tanner, Dale Davis, Curtis Roberson.
 Sims Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
