Thomas Stathem
Cumberland County Wills, 1749
#51 F
In the Name of God, Amen
I, Thomas Stathem of the County of Cumberland and Province of West New Jersey,
yeoman, being through the Abundant Mercy and Goodness of God, tho' weak of body,
yet of a perfect understanding and memory, do constitute this my Last Will and
Testament; and desire it may be received as such. Imprimis, I most humbly
bequeath my Soul to God, my Maker, beseeching his most gracious acceptance of
it, through the All Sufficient Merits and Mediation of my Compassionate
Redeemer, Jesus Christ, who gave himself to be an Atonement for my sins and is
able to save to the uttermost all that come unto God by him. As for my burial,
I desire it may be decent at the direction of my executor and executrix
hereafter named who, I doubt not will manage it with all requisite prudence.
As to my worldly estate, I will and positively order that all my debts be paid.
Item: My will is that Mary, my well beloved wife have whatsoever goods &c she
brought with her when I married her, and likewise one half part of the residue
of my moveable estate to dispose of as she thinks most proper, likewise, the
improvement of one third part of my real estate.
Item: I give and bequeath unto my daughter, Katherine the other half of my
moveable estate, and all my real estate except what is heretofore bequeathed to
her and to her heirs forever.
Likewise, I do hereby constitute my Son Jonathan, Mary, my wife, executor and
executrix of this my Last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I have
hereunto set my hand and seal this Twelfth Day of April, Seventeen hundred and
Forty Nine.
