David Weedin LARKIN was born in the State of Rhode Island, July 3, 1817,
and died at his home in the Town of Jackson, Adams Co., Wisconsin,
September 5th, 1900, at the age of 83 years, 2 months and 2 days.

When Mr. LARKIN was about four years old, his family removed to Schoharie
county, New York, where they resided for about ten years. Then came the sad
loss of his father, followed by the severing of the family, and David went
to live with his uncle. The young man attended the common schools in the
county, and also the Schoharie Academy. He proved an apt student and on
arriving at a suitable age, engaged during the winter months in school
teaching, laboring summers upon the farm.

In 1841 he married Miss Margaret Ann OTTMAN, and settled on a farm, varying
his occupation by teaching school during the winter.

In the spring of 1843, he came West with his family and first settled in
Walworth County, Wisconsin, where he again engaged in farming and school
teaching. While there he received frequent evidences of the estimation in
which he was held by his neighbors and feloow townsmen, who elected him to
the positions of town clerk, justice of the peace, school commissioner,
etc.

In the spring of 1855, Mr. LARKIN moved his family to the town of Jackson
in this [Adams] county and settled on the farm in section 28, on which he
has ever since resided, and on which he ended his long and useful life.

For many years Mr. LARKIN was a consistent and devout member of the
Methodist church. Later, loving not less the church of his earlier choice,
for associate reasons he united with the Congregational church at Davis
Corners.

The deceased held many official positions in his town, and it is but
repeating the sentiment in the heart of every one of his townsmen, to say
that he discharged every trust confided in him with intelligent and
honorable fidelity.

Mr. LARKIN left surviving him a widow, Mrs. Margaret A. LARKIN, and five
children--David Augustus and Charles of Jackson; James, residing in Polk
county, Wisconsin; Jay, of North Dakota, and Mrs. Ellen MAGINNIS of South
Dakota.
