Prominent Adams County Farmer Dies

Thomas W. HORTON of New Rome died very suddenly last Friday evening, June
14, 1902, of heart disease. He had not been sick to be confined to his home
at all, but had been in failing health for some time. The funeral was held
on Monday afternoon in New Rome, Reverend W. A. Peterson of Grand Rapids
officiating. It was the largest funeral ever held in that section, over
eighty teams being in the procession. The deceased was born in Orange
county, New York, May 16, 1831, and came west in 1855, locating in 1857 at
New Rome where he has since resided. He was a very prominent citizen of
Adams county and was well-known to all the older residents of this
locality. His wife died about twelve years ago. Seven children survive him:
Schuyler, of Milwaukee; Almond of Spring Creek; Dwight, Nellie and Mamie of
New Rome, and Arthur and Walter who are travelling salesmen and make their
home in Eau Claire. All were present at the funeral.
