EUREKA -- Lois A. Holmes, 77, of Village Grove, mother of a Eureka 
woman, died at 3:58 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 24, 1995 at Saint Francis 
Medical Center.

Born on March 3, 1918 in Westfield, Wis., to Gilbert and Nellie 
Burgdorff Dewar, she married John A. Holmes Sr. on May 10, 1941, in 
Rock Island. He died in May 1971. She also was preceeded in death by 
one brother and one sister.

Surviving are three sons, Jack A. of Jerseyville, Jeff of Villa 
Grove and Brent of Mattoon; two daughters, Karen Mathews of Eureka 
and Jane Locascio of Lisle; one sister, Margaret Hovens of 
Wauwatosa, Wis.; 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was the owner and publisher of Holmes Publications in Villa 
Grove, where she was a member of the Tri-city Country Club and 
Ladies Golf Association. She attended Wisconsin State University at 
Stevens Point, Wis. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church 
in Villa Grove. Burial will be at Villa Grove Cemetery.
