John Hawes was born at Mecklenburg, Germany Feb. 18, 1824, and died at his
home at Pleasant Prairie Oct. 16, 1914, aged 90 years, 7 mo. and 28 days.
His wife died nearly four years ago. He leaves to mourn six children, Fred
of Templeton, Wm. of Milwaukee, Annie of Madison, Carrie of South Chicago,
Frank and Minnie at home. Frank, Minnie, Carrie and Annie were with him to
the end, Carrie coming home a month ago and tenderly cared for him. He
leaves twenty-eight grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. The
funeral services were held at the home Oct. 18, 1914 at 2 o'clock p.m.
conducted by Rev. C. V. Robinson and was largely attended, showing that he
was highly respected. The remains were laid to rest beside those of his
wife in the Rock cemetery.
