DIED--At his home in New Chester, Wisconsin, January 31, 1899, of heart
failure, John DeMOTT, aged 64 years and 3 weeks.

John DeMOTT was born in the State of New York on the 10th of January, 1835.
He grew to manhood in his native State. In 1844, like so many energetic
sons of the Empire State, he resolved to seek his fortune in the West, and
came to Wisconsin, then a territory just beginning to entertain an ambition
for Statehood, and settled in Walworth county. In 1854 he left Walworth
county and settled in Adams county, where he ever since resided.

In 1857 he was married to Miss Rachel CAMPBELL. The union proved a genial
one, and the family that in time gathered about the hearthstone was one of
the best known and highly esteemed in the community. The name of "John
DeMOTT" became almost a synonym for truth and integrity.

A widow and nine children--two sons and seven daughters, and three brothers
and sisters, survive him. He was buried at the New Chester Congregational
church, Rev. D. J. Stevenson conducting the funeral services, on Friday
afternoon, February 2nd
