KILLED BY A COLT

On the fourth of July, Mr. Volney BACON, of Twin Valley was so severely
kicked by one of his colts that he died in less than eighteen hours after
receiving the injury.

Mr. BACON had attended the celebration at Point Bluff that day, and
apparently enjoyed the occasion very much. When he returned home toward
evening he found that one of his colts had broken out of his pasture into a
neighbor's field. Mr. BACON went for the colt, and got it to the fence
where he intended to let it through, and for that purpose passed by it,
putting his hand upon its hip as he did so. The colt instantly kicked,
striking Mr. BACON in the region of the abdomen with such violence that he
never rallied form the shock.

Mr. BACON was one of the old settlers of Springville--an industrious and
thrifty farmer, highly respected by the community in which he resided. He
left a widow and seven children. His funeral was on Thursday of last week
and was very largely attended.
