Will of Mathias Pettit
Centre Township Greene Co. Pa. being sick and weak in body but of sound mind
memory and understanding, praised be God for it, and considering the certainty of
death and the uncertainty of life I do therefore make and declare this my last will
and testament in manner as follows, first I will that all just debts as shall be by
me owing at my death together with my funeral expenses and all charges touching the
proving of or otherwise concerning this my will shall in the first place out of my
personal estate and effects be fully paid and satisfied, and for and after payment
thereof and subject thereto then my will is that I give and bequeath to Hester my
beloved wife my Black mare and three cows and all my household and kitchen
furniture, beds and bedding; and my will is that she shall have the place I now
live on for to maintain and support her as long as she remains my widow. Also there
is sixty dollars in my hands of my wifes children Wm. Cowin twenty dollars Levinah
Pettit twenty dollars J. Thomas Pettit twenty dollars the two least there money to
be kept on interest till they became of age also after y wife is done with the place
by death or other wise I wish that my place shall be appraised by three
disinterested men and if there is any of my children can take it I want them to do
it and if not to be sold and divided as follows: I give and bequeath to my daughter
Mary fifty dollars to be paid out of my real estate and the balance to be equally
divided among my remaining six children, Lewis, Elisabeth, George, Rebecca, Levina,
and John Thomas. And also after my just debts is paid out of my money and
personal property the balance to be equally divided as follows; Hester my wife,
Lewis, Elisabeth, George, Rebecca, Levina and John and also Rebecca and Levina is
to have a good bed and bedding beside there equal dowery when they became of age or
should marry, and also I want the Hay and Straw about the Barn reserved for Hester
my wife to winter her stock also she is to have what sheaf oats is on the barn
porch and 25 lbs beside also she is to have 3 small shoats and I further appoint
Lewis Pettit and John Scott my Executors of my last Will and testament.
Signed sealed and acknowledge by the testator in the presence of the subscriber as
his last Will and testament this November 24th 1859.

Greene County S.S. Before me Justus F. Temple Register for the Probate of Wills &c
personally appeared Simon Lewis and James Throckmorton, the subscribing witnesses
to the within instrument of writing, who being duly qualified, according to Law,
say they were present, and saw and heard the within named Testator, Mathias Pettit,
sign & seal, publish, pronounce and declare the said Instrument of writing as and
for his last Will and testament, that they signed the same as subscribing
witnesses thereto, at his request and in his presence, and in the presence of each
other, and at the time of his so doing, the said Testator was of sound mind, memory
and understanding to the best of their knowledge observation and belief.
