WILL OF JOHN HARCLERODE/HARGELRAHT/HARKELROTH and subsequent refusal of his wife,
ELIZABETH to accept the bequeathed.
[note to the reader: I, the transcriber, have endeavored to copy the will as it
appears to me. I have not
corrected the spelling, so that the reader can draw their own conclusions. For
example, the same word
could be either "Sheet" or "Sheep" in one case Now, onto the will.]
In the name of God, Amen. I, John HARGELRAHT of Colerain Township in the County of
Bedford in
the State of Panselvana. I am weack in body. I bequeath to my beloving wife the
places that I formerly
bot of Thomas DIEHL (?). I am whick in body but stil in sanses. I, John HARGELRAD
I whould wish
that every child that I one shal shear actual whith my asset, and for my now yongist
daters that I had by
my first wife I bequeath to my Dater Juliana one Cow and one Sheep and to my Dater
Margrad one Chest
and one Bad and badding and one Cow and Bad coatings (and one shiets and for the
last children that I
hade by my last wife I bequith to eithe rof them one Cow, one bad and badding and
spring while and one
shiett and one ships (sheep?). And that for Abraham BUSSARD what hee hase had that
coms to $200
busied and interest. And the loss afacks shall be sold by publick sale and the ___
___ the biur. And the
Master must sale the lands to the best atvantech and I wont my sun and law Peter
KAGG and my sun and
law Adam DEAHL the other to bee my acsaketerz in my last whil and Tastamant. In
Tastamony herof I
sat my hand and seel this the 22nd January 1814.

Bedford County; Personally appeared before me that subscriber Register for the
probate of wills and ___
letters of Administration in and for said County, Christopher STEIGLER and Daniel
DEIHL the
subscribing witnesses to the within will who being duly sworn depose and say that
they were personally
present and heard and saw John HARKELROTH the testator sign, seal, and declare the
within instrument
of writing as and for his last will and testament that at all the time of doing
thereof the testator was of
sound and disposing mind and memory according to the best of the _____s knowledge
and belief and that
they subscribed as witnesses in presence of the testator and at his request. Sworn
and subscribed the 25th
day of January, AD 1814.

Be it remembered that on the 26th day of January 1814, letters Testamentary were
granted to Peter KEGG
and Adam DIEHL, Executors in the foregoing will of John HARKELROTH, mentioned, they
having duly
sworn according to law.

Whereas John HARCLERODE, late of Colerain Township, Bedford County, deceased in and
by his last
will and testament or paper purporting to be such, dated twenty second day of
January last and filed in the
Registers office in and for said County did bequeath as follows Viz: "I bequeath to
my beloving wife the
plais that I formerly bot of Thomas DIEHL of ". Now be it known to all whom it may
concern that I,
Elizabeth HARCLERODE, the wife mentioned in the said will or supposed will and widow
of the said
John HARCLERODE, do hereby make my election and do refuse to accept the said bequest
and devise or
tract of land aforesaid in lieu of my dower and I do hereby waive said bequest or
devise and do hereby
declare my intention to demand my right of dower and all other legal rights which I
may have in or to the
estate of the said John HARCLERODE decesaed as if no such bequest or devise to me
had ever been
made. In witness where of I have hereunto set my hand and seal the eleventh day of
June AD 1814.
