Word comes by way of Bellefonte that Edward and Frederick Keller, both sons
of Squire Jacob Keller, of Pine Grove, Centre county, were drowned in the mill
dam at that place Saturday afternoon. The boys were aged 18 and 14 years,
respectively, and were skating together when the ice broke beneath them. They
struggled to get back on solid ice and Edward finally succeeded, but seeing
his younger brother still in the water, almost helpless from exhaustion and
going down for the last time, he bravely plunged back to the rescue. He
reached his brother, but must have been suddenly stricken with cramps, for
with his arm clasped about him, they both sank from the view of their excited
companions and drifted under the ice. Both bodies were recovered.
