RICHARD DEAN "DICK" HARLOW, SR.

Richard Dean "Dick" Harlow, Sr., 68, of 36 Graham St., Wallaceton and
formerly of Sandy Ridge, died Friday, June 24, 2005, at the home of his
daughter in Wallaceton.
He was born August 26, 1936, in Tyrone, the son of the late Ella
Louise (Shultz) Stimer and Elmer E. Harlow. He was raised by his mother
and step-father, the late Amos Stimer.
As a young boy, the family moved to the Bedford area where he lived
on a farm. He was very fond of farm life and it showed through the many
stories he told to his children and grandchildren about living the farm
life.
It continued into adulthood as he was first employed by Long's Dairy
in Tyrone. In 1976, he was hired by Penn State University and worked
for the office of the physical plant until retiring in 2000 after 24
years.
He was an avid hunter and hunted deer every year until his health
failed. His prize deer was a 10-point buck that he downed on Old
Mountain Trail in Sandy Ridge. He also enjoyed family camping trips and
the outdoors.
Harlow was a member of the Tyrone American Legion and the Teamsters
Union Local No. 8.
He is survived by two daughters and one son: Charlene Witherite and
her husband, Jerry, with whom Harlow resided in Wallaceton; Richard D.,
Jr. and his wife, Sandy, of Sanborn and Elva Shoemaker and her husband
Barry Sr. of Gearhartville.
Nine grandchildren surviving Harlow are: Dawn Hummel and her husband,
Dan, of Morrisdale; Rae, Claire, Luther and Reese Harlow of Sandborn
and Barry, Jr., Amanda, Josh and Bryant Shoemaker of Gearhartville.
Two great-grandchildren survive: Cody and Jeremy Hummel.
Also surviving are a brother, Bill Stimer, and his wife, Peggy, of
Tyrone; and a sister, Sally Sharpless, and her husband, Wayne, of
Dennisport, Mass.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Frank and John
Stimer and infant son Charles Leroy Harlow.
Dick was truly loved by his family and will be greatly missed by all
of his family and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 28, 2005, at the
Derman Funeral Home, Inc., Tyrone, with Rev. Randy Hughes officiating.
Interment will follow at Bald Eagle Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. Monday and
one hour before the service on Tuesday.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the donor's choice of
charity or to the Autism Society of America, in honor of his great-
grandson, Jeremy.
