ROBERT J. HALE 

  Robert J. Hale, 77, of Julian died Friday, Sept. 12, 2003 at the 
James E. Van Zandt V.A. Medical Center in Altoona.
  He was born on Jan. 21, 2926 in Julian, the son of the late William 
and Ida McDonald Hale.
  On Sept. 25, 1984, he married the former Helen P. Reish, who survives 
at home.
  Mr. Hale was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. 
Navy. He received the Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, 
Victory Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon.
  He was a welder for the Pennsylvania Railroad, having retired in 
1980, and was a private pilot for 50 years. He enjoyed riding his 
motorcycle for over 40 years, including his Harley Davidson.
  In addition to his wife, he is survived by two step-sons, Randolph C. 
Shawley and his wife Cindy and Dennis H. Shawley and his wife Sharon, 
both of Julian; two sisters, Madeline Robison of Julian and Katherine 
Nighthart of Pleasant Gap; and a brother, John Hale of Julian.
  He was preceded in death by a 1/2 brother, Sherold McDonald; and 
three step-grandchildren, Crystal M. Shawley, Denika Shawley and 
Katrina Shawley.
  Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Dean K. Wetzler 
Funeral Home in Milesburg at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 14 with Rev. 
Kevin St. Martin officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of 
the family.
  Friends will be received from 6-8:30 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral 
home.
