A Man Shoots Himself in the Temple

On Saturday afternoon about five o'clock a tragedy was enacted on the
mail west - Pennsylvania railroad, a short distance west of Mount
Union, by which J. B. Ettle, of Bellefonte, was killed. Mr. Ettle went
into the water closet beyond Mount Union, and at Petersburg, about
twenty miles west George W. Snyder, conductor of the train, tried to
open the door. Finding that it was locked, it was broken in, the first
object that met the eye of the conductor was the bloody form of Mr.
Ettle. In his temple was a bullet hole, and beside the corpse lay the
pistol which had discharged the fatal messenger. No reason is assigned
for the suicide, but it is thought it was the result of financial
troubles. Mr. Ettle was connected with the firm of Cobaugh & Ettle,
who have for some time had charge of Wilson's distillery at Highspire,
His age was about fifty years.
