S. BERTON BENCE, member of an old Indiana County family and a life-long

member of the Bethel Lutheran Church, passed away at his Rayne Township home

at 4:45 A.M. August 25.



Mr. Bence, the son of John D. and Lydia (Shields) Bence was born in Rayne

Township, April 17, 1878.



He is survived by his wife, Adda Manner Bence, one brother, W.A. Bence,

Indiana, and five children: Mrs. W.R. Fiedler (Irene), Sharon; Horace Bence,

Indiana, Mrs. J. Lisle Reed (Ethyl), Indiana; Lloyd Bence, Indiana, and Mrs.

John Grove (Gertrude) of Novelty, Ohio, and nine grandchildren.



Friends will be received at the Bence home from 7 P.M. Thursday until 12:30

P.M. Saturday. The body will then be removed and lie in state at the Bethel

Lutheran Church until 2:00 P.M. at which time services will be conducted by

Rev. R.K. Weber.



Interment will be made in the Greenwood Cemetery, Indiana.
