JOHN L. BENCE, 93, of Clymer, died Friday, March 1, 1968, at the Roosevelt
Hospital in New York City.
A son of James and Rosena Everwine Bence, he was born Aug. 17, 1874, in
Rayne Twp. where he spent his early life.
After his marriage to Ada B. Ackerson, in 1902, he moved to Cherryhill Twp.
where he spent 46 years as a prosperous farmer. During these years he was a
member of the Harmony Presbyterian Church of Penn Run and served as ruling
Elder.
His wife, Ada, preceded him to death in April of 1940.
In 1948, he married Mrs. Nora Sloan and resided in Indiana for 18 years.
While living in Indiana, he was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church. His
wife, Nora, preceded him in death in December of 1956.
Surviving are his two sons and a daughter: Seward Bence, Clymer; Ralph
Bence, Indiana; Mrs. Jules (Mary) Feuer of Flushing, N.Y.; six
grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a half-brother, Clarence Bence,
Marion Center, R.D.; a step-brother, Harry Fyock, Clearwater, Fla; two
step-sisters: Mrs. Mabel Cox, Indiana, and Mrs. Mary Gilhousen, Home.
Friends will be received at the Bence Funeral Home in Clymer today and
Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-10 pm. The body will be removed to the Bethel
Lutheran Church on Wednesday to lie in state from 1 until 2 pm., the hour of
service. Rev. James Bence, nephew of the deceased, will officiate and
interment will follow in the church cemetery.
