SERVICES FOR LATE RESIDENT OF MARION CENTER AT BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH

SATURDAY MORNING AT 10 O'CLOCK



Funeral services for James Bence whose death occurred Thursday morning at

Marion Center from a complication of diseases will be conducted in the

Bethel Lutheran Church near Dixonville, Saturday morning at 10 o'clock. he

services will be in charge of his pastor, the Rev. Luther Slifer, assisted

by the Rev. Messers. Edmonds and Alter of Marion Center. Interment will be

made in the Church Cemetery.



The deceased was born in Rayne Township, January 1, 1844, the eldest son of

Samuel and Elizabeth Bence. He followed the vocation of farming until eight

years ago, retiring at that time and locating in Marion Center. He had been

a consistent member of Bethel Lutheran Church since early in life, serving

as Deacon and Elder for many years.



Mr. Bence was a veteran of the Civil War, enlisting in Company C, Two

Hundred and Sixth Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, August 1864 and

remaining in the service until the close of the war in April, 1865. He was a

member of John Pollock Post, Grand Army of the Republic, of Marion Center.



He leaves his widow, Mrs. Minerva Short Bence and these children: Mrs. F.B.

Longwill of Indiana, Harry E. Bence of Near Penn Run; Charles L., J. Luther

and Clarence D. Bence, all of Dixonville, all of Dixonville; Logan C. Bence

of Clymer and Miss Genevieve Bence of Pittsburgh. Mrs. A.T. Cox of Indiana,

Mrs. James Gilhousen of Home, and Harry L. Fyock of Philadelphia were

step-children of the deceased. He also leaves a brother, John D. Bence of

Indiana, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Boucher of Beaverdale and Mrs. Scott

Lightcap of East Mahoning township.







FUNERAL OF JAMES BENCE



A large concourse of friends and relatives of the late James Bence of Marion

Center were present at the funeral services conducted in the Bethel Lutheran

Church Saturday morning. Many beautiful floral offerings attested the

respect and affection in which he was held. The name of a daughter, Mrs.

Fred Haer of near Marion Center was omitted from the list of survivors.
