Daily Local News
JOHN H. BAILY. Intelligence reached West Chester that
JOHN H J BAILY, a former resident of this place, had died
suddenly Sunday night in a Philadelphia hospital from kidney
trouble.
Mr. BAILY was well known here, where he lived for a number
of years prior to moving to Philadelphia. While here he served a
term or two as constable and was a very efficient official. At
various times he was employed as a bar clerk at the EAGLE,
TURKS HEAD, and MANSION House hotels, and was familiarly
known as "Snapper." He was in the fifty-ninth year of his age,
and leaves a wife and grown up daughter, MARY, who is known
to many persons here. JOHN HOOPES BAILY was born and
reared in Westtown township, and was a son of the late
A. W. BAILY, of Pocopson township. JAMES W. BAILY, of
Pocopson township, is a brother of the deceased.
He was a member of Company K, 124th Penna. Volunteers,
and was a good soldier. He took great interest in the reunions
of the association and was always to be found at the annual
gatherings. He was quite popular among his comrades, and at
the late reunion at Reading he received a very complimentary
vote for secretary.
Several years ago, he lost an arm on the Pennsylvania Railroad,
and has since held a position under the company at Broad Street
station. For several years past he lived at No. 144 North Twelfth
Street, Philadelphia.
The funeral will take place tomorrow morning from his late home,
to proceed to Hinkson's Corner M.E. Cemetery, near Media.
