OBITUARIES:

Dale Trammell

   (LINEVILLE) Dale Trammell, 57, of Lineville died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007, at 
his home.
   Services were Tuesday, Dec. 4, at noon at Peace and Goodwill Baptist Church, 
Roanoke, with burial in Lineville Community Cemetery.
   Survivors include his wife, Mae Helen Trammell of Lineville; a daughter, 
Christy Trammell Severe of Raleigh, N.C.; two sons, Dale Lashann Trammell and 
Brian Jermaine Trammell of Lineville; two sisters, Gale Trammell McFarland of 
Roanoke and Gloria Farrow of Camp Hill; and three brothers, Robert Staples and 
the Rev. Calvin Trammell of Roanoke and Alvin Trammell of Wedowee. He was 
preceded in death by a daughter, April Richardson, and two sisters, Johnnie 
Dunson and Debra Trammell.

Joseph Harold Holmes

   (WEDOWEE) Services for Joseph Harold Holmes, 78, of Wedowee were Tuesday, 
Dec. 4, 2007, at 11 a.m. at West Broad Street Church of Christ, with Bro. 
Dwight Thomas officiating. Burial followed in Wedowee City Cemetery.
   Mr. Holmes died Saturday, Dec. 1, at University of Alabama Birmingham 
Hospital.
   Survivors include his wife, Yvonne Prince Holmes of Wedowee; three 
daughters, Teresa Chandler, Terri Frederick and Tammy Frederick of Wedowee; one 
son, Charles Thomas Tommy Holmes of Wedowee; four grandchildren; and four 
sisters, Luree Holmes Benefield, Ruth Holmes Kirby and Sarah Helen Holmes of 
Wedowee and Wilda Holmes Harris of Grady.
   Pallbearers were Brad Prince, Keith Blue, Wayne McCulligh, Tony Whiddon, 
Charles Whiddon, Scott and Ethan Fowler, James Yarbrough Jr., Philip Carter, 
Donald Thompson, Wayne Joyner and Dustin Messer.
   Mr. Holmes was born June 18, 1929, son of Joseph Onward and Irma Bailey 
Holmes. He was a member of West Broad Street Church of Christ and had been a 
retail merchant. Mr. Holmes was preceded in death by his parents.

Fletcher Bailey

   (WADLEY) Fletcher Bailey, 60, of Wadley died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007, at his 
residence.
   Services were Thursday, Nov. 29, at 2 p.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church in 
Wadley with the Rev. Calvin Trammell, pastor, officiating. Burial followed at 
Bailey Cemetery in Wadley.
   Mr. Bailey is survived by his daughter, Mary E. Brooks of LaFayette; his 
son, Terry Brooks of Roanoke; a sister, Jannie Bailey of Wadley; a brother, 
Alonza Bailey of Jacksonville, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; 
and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
   Mr. Bailey was born Sept. 20, 1947, in Chambers County. He was a member of 
Hopewell Baptist Church.

Luther Samuel Maddox

   (BREMEN, Ga.) Luther Samuel Maddox, 78, of Bremen, Ga., died Nov. 27, 2007.
   Mr. Maddox was born April 24, 1929, in Randolph County to the late S.W. 
Maddox and Tommie Stamps Maddox. He was a retired presser at Sewell 
Manufacturing Co. and was a member of First Baptist Church of Bremen.
   Survivors include his wife, Doris Haynes Maddox of Bremen; daughter, Sharon 
Allen of Bremen; son, Walter Keith Maddox of Tallassee; brother, Garner Maddox 
of Woodland; and two grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded 
in death by brothers, Albert Maddox, Robert Maddox, David Maddox and Paul 
Maddox; and sisters, Lorean Webb, Dora Cofield and Velma Spradlin.
   Services were Thursday, Nov. 29, at 3 p.m. at Hightower Funeral Home in 
Bremen with Brother Herman Parker officiating. Pallbearers were Tim Maddox, 
Roger Maddox, Clarence Webb, Seth Maddox, Jason Jordan and Jerry Wright.  
Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Margaret Robinson

   (CARROLLTON, Ga.) Margaret Robinson of Carrollton, Ga., died Nov 25, 2007.
Ms. Robinson was born March 25, 1918, in Rock Mills to Charlie and Leaona 
Thomas.
   Survivors include her sisters, Lorain Metz of Atlanta and Dorothy Stalling 
Drummond and Catherine Cruduf of Carrollton; a brother, Fred of Carrollton; and 
several other relatives.
   Funeral services were Thursday, Nov. 29, at 2 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home 
Chapel, Carrollton.

Morris Simpson

   (ROANOKE) Services for Morris Simpson, 84, of Roanoke were Saturday, Dec. 1, 
2007, at 1 p.m. at Harmony Methodist Church, with the Rev. Hal Simpson 
officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
   Mr. Simpson died Wednesday, Nov. 28, at Randolph Medical Center.
   Survivors include his wife, Juanita Garrett Simpson of Roanoke; four 
sisters, Dessie Dodgen of Roanoke, Kate Grant and Katie Cook of LaGrange, Ga., 
and Janelle Adair; and two brothers, Euris and Jim Simpson of LaGrange.
   Pallbearers were Dale Lovvorn, Chuck Tucker, Jack Simpson, Billy Fred 
Lipham, Tommy Dodgen, Braxton Garrett and Nicky Simpson.
   Mr. Simpson was born Feb. 24, 1923, son of J.W. and Katie Cofield Simpson.   
He was a member of Harmony Methodist Church, a farmer and cattle farmer. Mr. 
Simpson had served in the United States Navy. He was preceded in death by his 
parents; one daughter, Judy Simpson; and one son, Paul Steve Simpson.

Peggy Burks Smith

   (ROANOKE) Services for Peggy Burks Smith, 66, of Roanoke were Sunday, Dec. 
2, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bill Calhoun 
officiating. Burial followed in Randolph Memory Gardens.
   Mrs. Smith died Friday, Nov. 30, at her home.
   Survivors include her husband, Larry Smith; one daughter, Crystal Smith of 
Roanoke; one son, Mike Smith of Roanoke; one sister, Betty Ann Pike of Rock 
Mills; three brothers, Howard, Nathan and Stevie Burks, all of Rock Mills; five 
grandchildren; two step-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Timothy Smith, Corey Smith, T.J. Ferguson, Kenneth Pike, 
Keith Pike and Kevin Pike.
   Mrs. Smith was born July 6, 1941, daughter of Hoyt and Louise Sheppard 
Burks. She was of the Baptist faith and a homemaker. Mrs. Smith was preceded in 
death by her parents; and one sister, Genell Rainwater.

Velma May Stephens Drummond

   (ROANOKE) Services for Velma May Stephens Drummond, 97, of Roanoke were 
Friday, Nov 30, 2007, at 1 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. 
George Smitherman officiating. Burial followed in Randolph Memory Gardens.
   Mrs. Drummond died Tuesday, Nov. 27, at Traylor Retirement Community.
   Survivors include two daughters, Elender Green and Patricia Ann Trainer; 
five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Todd Trainer, Tony Trainer, Alan Green, James Green, Lane 
Gay and Justin Gay.
   Mrs. Drummond was born July 2, 1910, daughter of James Walter and Eugenia 
Stephens. She was a member of Zion Baptist Church and a homemaker. Mrs. 
Drummond was preceded in death by her husband, Oren Drummond, and her parents.

Fred Henry Middlebrooks

   (ROANOKE) Services for Fred Henry Middlebrooks, 84, of Roanoke were 
Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. 
Stanley Daniel, the Rev. Otis Hodnett and the Rev. Fred Flowers officiating. 
Burial followed in Center Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
   Mr. Middlebrooks died Tuesday Nov. 27, at Hospice LaGrange.
   Survivors include his wife. Josie Johnson Daniel Middlebrooks of Roanoke; 
one son, Thomas Middlebrooks of Jefferson, Wisc.; four step-children; seven 
step-grandchildren; several nieces; and 16 step-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Tim Daniel, Scott Daniel, Russ Daniel, Brad Treadwell, 
Clint Daniel and Chuck Daniel.
   Mr. Middlebrooks was born Jan. 29, 1923, son of Walter Franklin and Lucy 
Henrietta Arnette Middlebrooks. He was a member of El Bethel Baptist Church and 
had worked as a furniture upholsterer for Scheeige Manufacturing. Mr. 
Middlebrooks served in the United States Air Corps during World War II. Mr. 
Middlebrooks was preceded in death by his parents.

Lona Gertrude Grant

   (JONESBORO, Ga.) Services for Lona Gertrude Grant, 70, of Jonesboro, Ga., 
formerly of Randolph County, were Saturday. Dec. 1, 2007, at 11 a.m. at  
Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Chris Reynolds, Dr. Robert Wilson and 
Bro. Danny James officiating. Burial followed in Randolph Memory Gardens.
   Mrs. Grant died Tuesday, Nov. 27, with her husband and children by her side, 
at Atlanta Medical Center.
   Survivors include her beloved husband of 54 years, L.B. Grant Jr. of 
Jonesboro; three daughters, Sharon Benbrook of Niceville, Fla., Teresa Thompson 
of Shalimar, Fla., and Nancy Grant of Gadsden; three sisters, Miriam, Brenda 
Sue and Janet; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were her sons-in-law and grandsons.
   Mrs. Grant was born March 15, 1937, daughter of Helf and Mary Frost 
Smith.    She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Jonesboro, a loving 
wife and mother, an inspiration to all who knew her. Mrs. Grant was preceded in 
death by her parents; one son, Bobby Glenn Grant; and two sisters, Jean Abner 
and Nell Haygood.

David Signo Sige' Yates

   (CARTERSVILLE, Ga.) Services for David Signo Sige Yates, 47, of 
Cartersville, Ga., were Friday, Dec. 7, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Mack Eppinger & 
Sons Funeral Chapel, Cartersville, with Pastor Ronnie Cline officiating.  
Burial followed at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Welch.
   Mr. Yates was born Dec. 30, 1959, in Randolph County, Ala., to William and 
Francis Pool Yates. He was raised by his grandparents, General Signo and 
Marie Nanny Pinckard Yates in Cartersville.
   Mr. Yates died Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Cartersville Medical Center after an 
extended illness.
   Mr. Yates attended Cartersville High School. He loved motorcycles and 
fishing, but most of all he loved the many friends who stood by his side during 
his illness.
   Survivors include his mother, Lonnie Francis Pool Vaughn of Forest Park, 
Ga.; five sisters, Christine White and Kathy Stringer of Cartersville, Ga., 
Gina Sims and Lynn Comstock of Thomaston, Ga., and Suzette James of Thomaston; 
one brother, Justin Vaughn of McDonough, Ga.; nieces and nephews; and a host of 
other relatives and friends.

Alesha Delores Bailey

   (WILLIAMSON, Ga.) Alesha Delores Bailey, 24, of Williamson, Ga., died 
Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007 at her residence.
   Alesha was born on June 21, 1983, in LaFollette, Tenn. She was a 2005 
graduate of Griffin High School and was a member of New Beginnings Christian 
Church. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Rev. James Housley, 
Howard Storm and Hubert Bailey.
   Survivors include her parents, Andrea and Carl Storm of Williamson and Marty 
and Pansy Bailey of Roanoke; sisters Summer Storm, Natalie Salazar, Tiffany 
Waters, Emily Storm, Traci Jones and Mandi Sellers; grandparents, Delores and 
Garland Dickens and Edna Bailey; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
   Services for Alesha were Tuesday, Dec. 11, at 2 p.m. in the Warren Haisten 
Memorial Chapel. Burial followed in Westwood Gardens.

J.W. Shelnutt

   (LAGRANGE, Ga.) J. W. Shelnutt, 76, of LaGrange, Ga., died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 
2007, at LaGrange Nursing and Rehabilitation.
   Mr. Shelnutt was born Nov. 22, 1931, in Franklin, Ga., son of the late James 
Rufus Shelnutt and Julia Ann Prince Shelnutt. He has been an area resident all 
his life and was a member of Unity Baptist Church. Mr. Shelnutt was a Literacy 
Volunteer for United Way and was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia 
Flournoy Shelnutt.
   Survivors include one stepdaughter, Jennie Cash of LaGrange; three stepsons, 
Tommy Hurston of Jackson, Miss., Brent Hurston and Reid Hurston, all of 
LaGrange; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two brothers, James 
Shelnutt and Terry Shelnutt, both of Franklin; one sister, Tommie Dean of 
Woodland; and several nieces and nephews.
   Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at Unity Baptist Church with 
the Rev. Doug Bingham officiating. Burial followed in Shadowlawn Cemetery.

   (ROANOKE) Services for Alais Cofield, 88, of Roanoke were Saturday, Dec. 8, 
2007, at 11 a.m. at Center Chapel Baptist Church with the Revs. Jody Overton 
and Ridley Herren officiating. Burial followed in the adjoining church cemetery.
   Mr. Cofield died Thursday, Dec. 6, at Columbus Medical Center.
   Survivors include three daughters, Jeanette Waldrep and Annette Trigg of 
Roanoke and Patricia Mulkey of Abanda; four sons, Leroy Cofield, Ricky Cofield 
and Troy Cofield, all of Roanoke, and Stanley Cofield of Wedowee; one sister, 
Martha Cathcart of Atlanta; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two 
great-great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Brian Cofield, Chris Cofield, Joey Cofield, Josh Cofield, 
Ray Mulkey Jr. and Mike Weedon.
   Mr. Cofield was born Sept. 4, 1919, son of Ben and Sarah Rice Cofield. He 
was a member of Center Chapel Baptist Church, a self-employed carpenter and 
served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Cofield was preceded in death 
by his spouse, Ruth Louise Cofield; his parents; and one son, Alais Cofield Jr.

Ricky Steven Marlow

   (BREMEN, Ga.) Ricky Steven Marlow, 49, of Bremen, Ga., died Nov. 27, 2007.
Mr. Marlow was born in Carroll County on Oct. 9, 1958, to Frank and Bobbie 
Brown Marlow.
   His father preceded in him death.
   In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Donna Davis; 
daughters, Tori Marlow and Tarra Marlow, both of Bremen, and Brandy Marlow of 
Carrollton, Ga.; stepdaughter, Jennifer Dunn of Bremen; brother, Danny Marlow 
of Wedowee; sisters, Marie Johnson of Sevierville, Tenn., and Frankie Parker of 
Wedowee; and one grandchild.
   In accordance with Mr. Marlow's wishes, his body was cremated and a private 
service was held.

   (CUMMING, Ga.) Susie M. Bennett, 84, of Cumming, Ga., passed away Tuesday, 
Dec. 4, 2007 at Piedmont Hospital, Atlanta.
   She was born Feb. 27, 1923 in Wedowee to Elius Clyde Parker and Lela Mae Nix 
Parker.
   Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Everett Bennett Sr.; two sons, 
Everett Bennett Jr. of Cumming and Jimmy Arlen James of Douglasville, Ga.; one 
daughter, Connie Marie James Killian Brown of Cullman; eight grandchildren; and 
12 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son, Levis Terry James; two 
brothers, William Levis Parker and Norman Emil Parker; two sisters, Ella Mae 
Parker Avery and Gladys Ruanett Parker Mashburn.              Funeral services 
were held Saturday, Dec. 8, at 1 p.m. in the Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with 
Pastor Ron Demoss and Rev. Lamar Foster officiating. Interment was Monday, Dec. 
10, at 1:30 p.m. at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.

the Forsyth County Veterans Alliance, or the Charity of your choice.

   (WOODLAND) Services for Dolly M. Pollard, 72, of Woodland were Tuesday, Dec.

and the Rev. Tommy Smith officiating. Burial followed in the adjoining cemetery.
   Pallbearers were Tommy Smith, Jerry Smith, Arnold Rollins, Russell Rollins, 
Kevin Third and Jackie Rollins.
   Mrs. Pollard died Sunday, Dec. 9, at Wedowee Hospital.
   Mrs. Pollard is survived by her husband, Leonard Pollard of Woodland; one 
daughter, Brenda Third of Anniston; one grandchild; one sister, Linda Edwards 
of Huntsville; and three nephews.
   Mrs. Pollard was born March 6, 1935, daughter of Lewis and Lillie Wiggins 
Mathews. She was a member of Rocky Branch Baptist Church and had been a 
seamstress for Fashion Star. Mrs. Pollard was preceded in death by her parents 
and one sister, Imodene Allums.

   (WADLEY) Services for Leila Izora Belcher, 90, of Wadley were Tuesday, Dec.

Windsor and the Rev. Bryan Lee Yates officiating. Burial followed at Wadley 
City Cemetery.
   Mrs. Belcher died Sunday, Dec. 9, at Traylor Nursing Home in Roanoke.
   Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth Karr of Wadley and Estelle 
Sanders of LaFayette; a son, Robert Windsor of Wadley; two sisters, Eleanor 
Clark of Roanoke and Mattie Lee Belcher of LaFayette; nine grandchildren; 14 
great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Herbert Clark, Scotty Windsor, Aaron Sanders, Rickie Barns, 
Justin McKinney and Rusty Sanders.
   A Chambers County native, Mrs. Belcher was born Dec. 18, 1916, daughter of 
Will and Mary Piper East. She was a member of Abanda Baptist Church and had 
retired from Clegg Manufacturing Company. She was preceded in death by her 
parents and her husband, Woodrow Belcher.

Sollie Florence Adcock Benefield Riley

   (DOTHAN) Sollie Florence Adcock Benefield Riley, 89, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 
2007, at Joyce Goldenberg Inpatient Hospice, Pensacola, Fla.
   Mrs. Riley was born in Randolph County, Ala., June 23, 1918. She resided in 
Dothan since 1969, working as a LPN at Southeast General Hospital until 
retirement in 1982.
   Mrs. Riley was preceded in death by her husband, Morris Riley; her brother, 
Cecil Crouch Adcock; and her parents, Lois Ethel Crouch Adcock and Elus Soloman 
Adcock.
   Mrs. Riley is survived by her sister, Willadeen Thompson of Tuscaloosa; her 
daughter, Rebecca Sisk of Pensacola; two grandchildren; two great-
grandchildren; and 29 nieces and nephews.
   Services for Mrs. Riley were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, in the Ward Wilson 
Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Coley Holloway officiating. Burial will 
followed in Crestlawn Cemetery in Avon, Ala.

   (ROANOKE) Services for Shelby Jean Ward, 68, of Roanoke were Saturday, Dec.

officiating. Burial followed at Napoleon Church of Christ Cemetery.
   Mrs. Ward died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, at Emory Hospital in Atlanta.
   Survivors include one son, Larry Joe Ward Jr. of Roanoke; her mother, Velma 
Smith Nichols of Roanoke; and a sister, Sandra Vinson of Roanoke.
   Pallbearers were Todd Vinson, Ken Seiffert, Bo Cobb, Bill Ward Jr., Daryle 
Farr and John T. Brown.
   A Randolph County native, Mrs. Ward was born Oct. 30, 1939, daughter of 
James Pete and Velma Smith Nichols. She was a resident of Louisville, Ky., for 
25 years and Charleston, S.C., for 20 years. Mrs. Ward was an antique dealer. 
She was preceded in death by her father; her husband, Larry Ward; and a 
daughter, Christiana Gail Ward.

Myra Jo Lovvorn Kelley

   (WEDOWEE) Memorial services for Myra Jo Lovvorn Kelley, 62, of Wedowee were 
held Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007, at 2 p.m. from her home, 2338 Co. Rd. 29, Wedowee.
   Mrs. Kelley died Wednesday, Nov. 28, at her home.
   Survivors include her mother, Louise Ayers Lovvorn of Newell; two daughters, 
Melissa K. and Donna Benefield, both of Wedowee; three sisters, Delorse Lovvorn 
and Dorothy Adkins of Newell and Peggy Cole of Carrollton, Ga.; and four 
grandchildren.
   Mrs. Kelley was born Jan. 24, 1946, daughter of Watson and Louise Ayers 
Lovvorn. She was a member of the Pine Hill Church of Christ and a textile 
machinist. Mrs. Kelley was preceded in death by her father; and one son, Jimmy 
Kelley. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alabama Association of 
ALS.

God in Lanett, with the Rev. Loren Sutton officiating. Burial followed at 
Resthaven Cemetery.
   Mrs. Sorrell died Wednesday, Dec. 5, at the Care Center of Opelika.
   Survivors include one son, Mike Sorrell of Lanett; one granddaughter, 
Vanessa Burnside of Wedowee; and one great-granddaughter.
   Mrs. Sorrell was born Oct. 8, 1926, in Lanett, the daughter of Alma Owings 
Knight and C.L. Knight. She had been a resident of the Care Center of Opelika 
for the past eight years. She was a former employee of West Point Pepperell, 
with 14 years of service, and then worked for 18 years with Intestate Telephone 
Company. She was a member of Community Chapel Church of God and was a past-
president of the Pilot Club of West Point and a member of the Valley Chapter of 
National Secretaries Association.
   She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Lewis Sorrell; and her 
parents.
   Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's 
Association or to Community Chapel Church of God in Lanett in her memory.

   (WADLEY) Services for Gussie Boe Clark, 70, of Wadley were Friday, Dec. 7,

   Mr. Clark died Wednesday, Dec. 5, at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical 
Center in Anniston.
   Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Clark of Millerville; a daughter, Kathy 
Mejia of Roanoke; one granddaughter; two stepsons, Billy Turley and Joseph 
Turley of Clay County; four sisters, Frances Watson of Oxford, Virginia Moreman 
of Wadley, Dorothy Herron of LaGrange, Ga., and Patricia McKenzie of Macon, 
Ga.; and three brothers, Ray and Larry Clark of Roanoke and Roy Clark of 
Hogansville, Ga.; and two step-grandchildren.

Smith, Michael Denham and Virgil Mulkey.
   A lifelong Randolph County resident, Mr. Clark was born Oct. 29, 1937, son 
of Daniel and Agnes Davis Clark. He had retired from Candlewick Yarns. Mr. 
Clark was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Jessie Clark.

   (MILLBROOK) Services for Nell McCarter Knowles Jacob, 77, of Millbrook,

   Mrs. Jacob died Monday, Dec. 10, at Baptist Hospital of Prattville.

Mary Harlin and Judy Harvel of Roanoke and Jane Maynard of Macon, Ga.; four 
grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
   Mrs. Jacob was born Sept. 22, 1930, daughter of Luther S. and Annie Mae 
Swann McCarter. She was a member of Dexter Avenue United Methodist Church of 
Montgomery and was a retired employment counselor for the Alabama Department of 
Industrial Relations. Mrs. Jacob was preceded in death by her parents and a 
husband, Sherrell Knowles.

   (CARROLLTON, Ga.) Robert Pearson Sr. of Carrollton, Ga., died Sunday, Dec. 
2, 2007.
   Mr. Pearson was born in Newell on Nov 17, 1920, to the late Luther and 
Siller Pearson. He was married to Laura Mae Harrison. He was preceded in death 
by his parents; wife; daughter, Dorothy Cook; and son, Jethro Potts.

Kenneth E. Burson

   (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Kenneth E. Burson, 80, of LaGrange died Friday, Dec. 14, 
2007, at his home.
   Mr. Burson was born Nov. 1, 1927 in Randolph County, son of the late J.C. 
and Leila Robinson Burson. He was an active member of Faith Baptist Church and 
retired as the co-op manager of the Troup County EMC after 37 years of 
service.  Mr. Burson was one of the co-founders of the Happy Haven School for 
Special Needs Children, served on the G.A.R.C. Governor's Council under Jimmy 
Carter, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Signal Corps 
during World War II.
   Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Ollie Belle Burson; three daughters, 
Jeanne Dumais and Sue Frampton of LaGrange and Alice Koone of Pine Mountain, 
Ga.; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
   Services were at 2 p.m. Monday at Faith Baptist Church, with the Revs. 
Charles Chapman, Brandon Brooks and Greg Brown officiating.  Interment was at 
Shadowlawn Cemetery.

Rollie Wayne Hill

   (BIRMINGHAM) Rollie Wayne Hill, 72, of Birmingham died Saturday. Dec. 15. 
2007.
   He never met a stranger and was best known as The Cookie Man. He has baked 
and delivered thousands of cookies to friends, family and anyone else who 
looked like they needed a cookie or a hug.
   He was preceded in death by his wife, Jacqueline Bowen Hill; his parents, 
Rollie Hedrick Hill and Nellie P. Tittle Hill; and a brother, George M. Hill.   
He is survived by his son, Vander E. Hill; a brother, Arnold Hill: a sister, 
Melba H. Smith: four nieces and four nephews.
   Services were Tuesday, Dec. 18, at 2 p.m. at Roebuck Chapel, with burial in 
Sunrise Memory Gardens, Nancy Hornsby officiated.

Gary Gerald Stewart

   (DOUGLASVILLE, Ga.) Gary Gerald Stewart, 62, of Douglasville, Ga., died Dec. 
11, 2007, at his home.
   Mr. Stewart was born Feb. 27, 1945, in Madison, Wis., to Mrs. Ethel Smith 
Stewart and the late Chester Stewart. He was a member of Peachtree Community 
Church in Villa Rica, Ga. He served in the U.S. Navy. For many years he worked 
as an automobile mechanic. Mr. Stewart retired from Sears where he served as an 
outdoor technician. He taught gun safety for the Douglas County Sheriff's 
Office. Besides his father, he was preceded in death by his son, Cary Stewart.
   Survivors include his wife, Brenda Luther Stewart of Douglasville; sons, 
Adam Stewart of Laughton, La., Scott Stewart of Covington, Ga., Jason Stewart 
of Villa Rica, Jamey Greene of Wedowee and Rusty Greene and Matt Greene of 
Carrollton, Ga.; mother, Ethel Smith Stewart of Cartersville, Ga.; sister 
Deborah Stewart of Cartersville; 15 grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

   (LAGRANGE, Ga.)  Liller Burson Becky' Brock, 81, of LaGrange, Ga., died 
Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007, at Hospice LaGrange.
   Mrs. Brock was born Sept. 5, 1926, in Big Springs, Ala., daughter of the 
late Toombs Bernard Hester and Liller Ann Burson Hester.  She had lived in 
LaGrange for the past 45 years and was retired from K-Mart.  Mrs. Brock was 
preceded in death by her husband, Charles Alton Brock, and son, Alton Brock.
   Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Eleanor Hester of 
LaGrange; and several nieces and one nephew.
   A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Southerland and Martha Bearden Southerland. Mr. Southerland was employed as a 
diesel mechanic at McGriff Tire Company in Oxford and was of the Baptist faith. 
Mr. Southerland was preceded in death by his father, Anthony Southerland. 
   Survivors include his mother, Martha Bearden Southerland and James E. 
Shepherd of Villa Rica, Ga.; son, Kevin Southerland of Woodland; sisters, 
Melinda Thomas of Haralson County, Ga., Dewana Shepherd of Temple, Ga., and

professional salesman. Mr. Jones was also a member of the Ashland Masonic Lodge

   He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Margaret Jones of Wadley; one 
daughter, Babs Carpenter of Alabaster; three grandsons and one great-
granddaughter; and one brother, Fred Jones of Opelika.

   Pallbearers were Ricky Taylor, Brandon Taylor, Joey Hester, Dale Dye, Earnie 
Madden and Ronald Bowen.
   A Randolph County native, Mr. Madden was born Oct. 16, 1931, son of Loyd and 
Mattie Spears Madden. He was of the Methodist faith and had been a textile 
weaver for Amoco Fabrics. He was preceded in death by his parents.
