OBITUARIES:

Thomas Edward Eddie' Davis

     (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Thomas Edward Eddie Davis, 69, of Roanoke 
were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 1994, at North Main Congregational Christian Church, 
with the Revs. Ralph Worley and E. G. Clark officiating. Interment was at Randolph 
Memory Gardens.
     Mr. Davis died Sunday, Jan. 2, at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.
     He was a member of the board of trustees and the usher board of North Main 
Congregational Christian Church, the retired owner of Radio Shack in Roanoke after 17 
years, and an agent with Liberty National Insurance Company for many years.
     Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Pauline Davis of Roanoke; two daughters, Mrs. Carol 
Gilham of Rock Mills and Mrs. Gloria Burks of Roanoke; one sister, Mrs. Charlene Cole 
of LaGrange; three brothers, Daniel Davis of Killen [sic], Texas; Tommy Davis of 
LaGrange, and Billy Joe Davis of Texas; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
     Pallbearers were Loyd Bolt, Ford Gann, Carl Sellers, Quillian Adamson, Gordon 
Bradshaw and Joe Kitchens.
     Arrangements were by Quattlebaum Funeral Home.

Ronald Duncan

     (FIVE POINTS) Ronald Duncan, 56, of Five Points died Saturday, Jan. 1, 1994 at 
George H. Lanier Hospital in Valley.
     Services for Mr. Duncan were at Five Points Baptist Church on Monday, Jan. 3, at 2 
p.m., with Rev. Herbert Howard officiating. Interment was in Five Points Cemetery.
     Born in Chambers County, Ala., on Aug. 31, 1937, Mr. Duncan was a member of Five 
Points Baptist Church. He was employed for seven years at West Point Foundry and for 
15 years at West Point Pepperell.
     Survivors include his wife, Mary Duncan of Five Points; two daughters, Rhonda 
McGlown of Huguley and Lynn Cardiel of Dallas, Texas; two sons, Steve Duncan of 
Huguley and Dale Duncan of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; his parents, Ardell and Ida Mae 
Duncan of Lanett; one sister, Shirley Crenshaw of Lanett; one brother, Randy Duncan of 
Atlanta, Ga.; 10 grandchildren, and four step-grandchildren.
     Arrangements were by Sanders Funeral Home, LaFayette.

Jessie Greene Adair

     (ROANOKE) Jessie Greene Adair, 87, of Roanoke died at East Alabama Medical 
Center in Opelika on Sunday, Jan. 2, 1994.
     Services for Mrs. Adair were at New Hope Congregational Christian Church in 
Chambers County at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, with Rev. Olin Sheppard and Rev. Roy Bain 
conducting. Interment was in the church cemetery.
     Mrs. Adair was a member of New Hope Congregational Christian Church and was a 
pianist for several churches for 71 years. She was a lifelong resident of Chambers County. 
Memorials may be made to New Hope Congregational Christian Church.
     Survivors include three daughters, Sara Frances Denney of Birmingham, Nancy Noyes 
of Gainesville, Fla., and Catherine Pearson of Wadley; one son, Henry Harold Adair of 
Montgomery; one sister, Mary Beaird of West Point, Ga.; one brother, John Tom Greene 
of Lanett; eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
     Pallbearers were Wayne Stephens, Herbert Clark, John Milner, Morris Cosper, Pat 
Godfrey and Ray Halsey.
     Sanders Funeral Home of LaFayette was in charge of arrangements.

Minnie Sarah Clark

     (BOWDON, Ga.) Minnie Sarah Clark, 81, of 108 Second St., Bowdon, Ga., died 
Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1993, in Tanner Medical Center, Carrollton, following an extended 
illness.
     Mrs. Clark was born in Clay County, Ala., June 18, 1912, daughter of the late Ed and 
Lucy Bolt Pierce. She had been a resident of the Bowdon area for three years after moving 
from Gadsden. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Carroll County, Ga., and 
was a homemaker.
     Survivors include her son, Len Franklin Richards of Bowdon; her daughter, Mrs. 
Maureen Williamson of Bowdon; her step-son, Arthur Ray Clark of Glencoe, Ala.; 
three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and 13 step-grandchildren.
     Funeral services were Thursday, Dec. 30, at 2 p.m. from Antioch Baptist Church, with 
Rev. H. T. Henderson officiating. Music was by Jennifer Hammond. Interment was in 
Corinth Baptist Cemetery (Clay County, highway 77) at 4 p.m. EST.
     Rainwater & West Funeral Home and Chapel, Bowdon, was in charge of 
arrangements.

Ida Bell Wright

     (WEDOWEE) Mrs. Ida Bell Wright, 94, of Wedowee died Dec. 29, 1993, at Bowdon 
Area Hospital, Bowdon, Ga.
     Funeral services for Mrs. Wright were at Union Chapel Methodist Church at 2 p.m. 
Jan. 2, with Rev. R. L. Smith officiating. Interment was in Stephens Mission Methodist 
Church Cemetery.
     Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Bernice Harris of Gadsden, Mrs. Eva Glenn of 
Bowdon, and Mrs. Cassie Hicks and Mrs. Jessie Alls of Chicago, Ill.; three sons, Sylvester 
Wright of Petersburg, Va., and John Wright and Robert Wright, Jr. of Wedowee; 
41 grandchildren; and 73 great-grandchildren.
     Mrs. Wright was a member of Union Chapel Methodist Church and a native of 
Randolph County.
     Arrangements were by Vines Funeral Home, LaFayette.

Florence Bowen Perry

     (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Mrs. Florence Bowen Perry, 73, of Roanoke, 
Route 1, were Friday, Dec. 31, 1993, at 2 p.m. from Midway United Methodist Church, 
with Revs. Cloyce Johnson and Bart Bowlin officiating. Burial was at the church 
cemetery.
     Mrs. Perry died Thursday, Dec. 29, at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.
     A Randolph County native, Mrs. Perry was born Dec. 11, 1920, daughter of G. J. and 
Ada Young Bowen. She was a member of Midway United Methodist Church and had 
worked at Handley Mills. Her husband, Green Perry, preceded her in death.
     Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Carolyn Craven of Roanoke; two sisters, Mrs. 
Clara Bowen of Phenix City and Mrs. Gladys Stallings of Opelika; and a brother, Garvie 
Bowen of Fort Payne.
     Pallbearers were Gerald Perry, Billy Pitts, C. W. Perry, Joey Thrower, Roger Adcock 
and Scott McCord.
     Quattlebaum Funeral Home was in charge of arrangement.

Irma Elaine Cunningham

     (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Irma Elaine Cunningham, 87, of Roanoke were 
Sunday, Jan. 2, 1994, at 1 p.m. from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with Bro. Gerald 
Romine officiating. Burial was at Taylor's Cross Roads Church of Christ Cemetery.
     Mrs. Cunningham died Thursday, Dec. 30, at Randolph County Hospital in Roanoke.
     A Randolph County native, Mrs. Cunningham was born Aug. 26, 1906, daughter of 
Oren Britin and Alcy Lavonia Green Caldwell. She was a member of Roanoke Church of 
Christ and had worked with Palm Beach.
     Survivors include a step-daughter, Mrs. Anna Mae Carter of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; 
a step-son, Tony Cunningham of Tampa, Fla.;10 step-grandchildren; and 
five step-great-grandchildren.
     Pallbearers were Paul Young, Herbert Swann, Fred May, Charles May and Wallace 
Carter.
     Quattlebaum Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ava Jean Kaylor Allen Phillips

     (BOWDON, Ga.) Funeral services for Mrs. Ava Jean Kaylor Allen Phillips, 49, of 
Bowdon, were Sunday, Jan. 2, 1994 at 2 p.m. from Potash Church of God, with Revs. 
S. T. Janney and Dennis Robinson officiating. Burial was at Potash Cemetery.
     Mrs. Phillips died Friday, Dec. 31, at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton, Ga.
     A Cleburne County native, Mrs. Phillips was born Nov. 10, 1944, daughter of 
O. V. and Vassie Smith Allen. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church and was a 
homemaker. A son, Anthony Wayne Richardson, preceded her in death.
     Survivors include three daughters, Teresa Charlene West of Lawrenceville, Ga., Mary 
Elizabeth Phillips of Cummings, Ga., and Tina Victoria Phillips of Roanoke; a son, 
Edward Dean Richardson Jr. of Roanoke; three grandchildren, Timothy Dale Esco, Justin 
Dean Richardson and Tyler West; a half-sister, Ellen Elizabeth Kaylor of North Carolina; 
and two half-brothers, Lloyd Marvin Kaylor Jr. of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Wayne Forrest 
Kaylor of Chamblee, Ga.
     Pallbearers were Wayne Ledbetter, Mack Ledbetter, Jack Ledbetter, Gary Spears, 
Charles Ray Baughn and Clarence Baughn.
     Mrs. Phillips had requested that flowers not be accepted and had suggested memorial 
contributions be made to further the study and treatment of cardiovascular disease. The 
family is honoring that request.

Claude Sharp Tucker

     (VILLA RICA, Ga.) Claude Sharp Tucker, 95, of Villa Rica, Ga., a former resident of 
Newell, Ala., died Saturday, Jan. 1, 1994 in Tanner Medical Center, Carrollton, following 
a lengthy illness.
     Mr. Tucker was born in Cherokee County, Ala., April 30, 1898, son of the late 
Andrew and Mary Frost Tucker. He was a member of Bethel East Baptist Church, 
Woodland, Ala., and was a retired security guard with Ray Sewell Co. He was preceded in 
death by his wife, Lilla Douglas Tucker on Nov. 27, 1987.
     Survivors include three sons, Burlis Tucker of Douglasville, Ga., Doug Tucker of 
Bowdon, Ga., and Donnie tucker of Tyler, Tex.; seven daughters, Mrs. Jessie Aultman of 
East Point, Ga., Miss Thelma Tucker of Forest Park, Ga., Mrs. Evelyn Buchanan of 
Bowdon, Mrs. Mellie Smith of Newnan, Ga., Mrs. Wilma Wilson of Forest Park, 
Mrs. Linda Wiggins of Ranburne, Ala., and Mrs. Jean Wiggins of Newell; 19 grand- 
children; 38 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Roy Tucker of 
Blue Ridge, Ga.; and a sister, Mrs. Burnell Swafford of Dallas, Ga.
     Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 3 at 2 p.m. CST from Antioch Baptist Church, 
Newell, with Rev. Terry Eason and Rev. J. M. Jones officiating. Music was furnished by 
Rev. Donald Triplett. Pallbearers were Jason Tucker, Brandon Howard, Scott Alums, Ken 
Wiggins, Barry Weaver and Clay Tucker. Interment was in the church cemetery.
     Rainwater-West Funeral Home, Bowdon, was in charge of arrangements.

Jessie Clarence Crenshaw

     (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Jessie Clarence Crenshaw, 69, of Roanoke, Route 2, 
were Friday, Dec. 31, 1993, at 3 p.m. from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Cecil 
Halsey officiating. Burial was at Mt. Carmel Church of Christ Cemetery in Woodland.
     Mr. Crenshaw died Thursday, Dec. 30, at Randolph County Hospital in Roanoke.
     A former resident of Woodland, Mr. Crenshaw was born Feb. 4, 1924, in Randolph 
County, son of William and Margaret Crenshaw. He worked as a self-employed farmer.
     Survivors include two nieces, Ms. Geneva Jackson of LaFayette and Ozella Crenshaw 
Still of Valley; a nephew, Bruce Windsor of Roanoke, and several cousins.
     Pallbearers were Tim Brown, Kerry Burks, Blake Perry, Randy McManus, Gerald 
McManus and J. D. Crenshaw.

Lona Price

     (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Lona Price, 93, of Roanoke Route 1 were Tuesday, 
Jan. 4, 1994, at 3 p.m. from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with Rev. E. G. Clark 
officiating. Burial was at Mt. Zion Christian Church Cemetery.
     Miss Price died Sunday, Jan. 2, at Traylor Nursing Home in Roanoke.
     A native and lifelong resident of Randolph County, Miss Price was born Aug. 7, 1900, 
daughter of Jim and Janie Robertson Price. She was a member of Mt. Zion Christian 
Church and had worked as a housekeeper.
     Survivors include a niece, Ms. Kathy Pike of Roanoke; nephews Teddy Galanti of 
Birmingham and Randy Cummings and Gene Banks of Roanoke; and several other nieces 
and nephews.
     Pallbearers were Gene Banks, Danny Pike, Randy Cummings and Teddy Galanti.
     Quattlebaum Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Stonewall Jackson Craven

     (NEWELL) Stonewall Jackson Craven, 83, of Route 1, Newell, died Monday, Jan. 3, 
1994, in Wedowee Hospital.
     Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, at Union Baptist Church, with 
Rev. Steve Dempsey and Rev. Roger Hammett officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining 
cemetery.
     Mr. Craven is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Lena New of Newell, Mrs. Stella 
Phillips of Wedowee and Mrs. Mildred Tarver of Cedartown, Ga.; one sister, Lola Key 
of Wedowee; and seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
     Pallbearers will be David Pinkard, Tim Craft, Dorsey White, Roy Tillie, Blake 
Character and Ray Dean.
     Mr. Craven, a native and lifelong resident of Randolph County, was a member of 
Iduma Methodist Church and a farmer. He was preceded in death by his wife, 
Mrs. Nellie Craven.
     Mr. Craven will be in state at Benefield Funeral Home, Wedowee, where the family 
will receive friends today until time for services.
     Benefield Funeral Home, Wedowee, is in charge of arrangements.

Kimberly Dawn Hyatt Morris

     (BOWDON, Ga.) Kimberly Dawn Hyatt Morris, 26, of Bowdon, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 
1994, in Emory University Hospital, Atlanta, Ga., following a brief illness.
     Mrs. Morris was born in Carroll County, Ga., March 16, 1967, daughter of Jerry Ray 
and Katherine Rice Hyatt. She was a lifelong resident of this area and was a lunchroom 
worker for Carrollton City Schools.
     Survivors include her husband, Jeffrey Lewis Morris of Bowdon; two daughters, 
Mirainda Morris and Stacy Morris of Bowdon; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Ray Hyatt 
of Bowdon; a sister, Mrs. Karen Maddox of Woodland, Ala.; her maternal grandmother, 
Mrs. Naomie Rice of Newell; her maternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Mary Lou Smith of 
Newell; her father and mother-in-law, Mack and Bobbie Morris of Bowdon; and four 
nieces and one nephew.
     Funeral services were Tuesday, Jan. 4 at 3 p.m. from Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 
with Rev. W. M. Wiggins, Rev. Doug Bingham and Rev. Roy Connell officiating. Music 
was furnished by Jeff and Chad Morris. Interment was in the church cemetery.
     Rainwater-West Funeral Home, Bowdon, was in charge of arrangements.

OBITUARIES:

Susie Wilson

     (ROANOKE) Susie Wilson, 85, of Roanoke Health Care Center, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 
1994, at East Alabama Medical Center, Opelika, after a short illness.
     Services will be Friday, Jan. 14, at 1 p.m. at Pine Flat Primitive Baptist Church, 
Wedowee, with Elder Thomas Knight officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.
     Nephews will serve as pallbearers, and nieces as flower bearers.
     Mrs. Wilson, born in Randolph County, was a faithful member of Pine Flat Primitive 
Baptist Church in Wedowee. For several years, she lived with her husband, the late 
Mat Wilson, in Lineville.
     Survivors include one son, Arthur Minnifield of Dayton, Ohio; one granddaughter, 
Mrs. Patricia Turner of Dayton; one grandson, Warren Minnifield of Columbus, Ohio; 
and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
     Visitation will be at Clark Memorial Funeral Service's parlor on Thursday, Jan. 19, 
from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the 
service on the day of the funeral.
     Arrangements are by Clark Memorial Funeral Service in Roanoke.

Annie Margaret Stephens

     (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Annie Margaret Stephens, 71, of Route 1, Roanoke, 
were Saturday, Jan. 8, 1994, at 3 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Gordon 
Taylor officiating. Burial was at Concord Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.
     Mrs. Stephens died Thursday, Jan. 6, at Traylor Nursing Home.
     A lifelong resident of Randolph County, Mrs. Stephens was born Oct. 21, 1922, 
daughter of Gay and Daisy Borders Britt. She was preceded in death by her son, 
Thomas Rodney Stephens.
     Survivors include her husband, Dewey Stephens of Roanoke; four sons, William D. 
Stephens of Lone Jack, Mo., Jerry S. Stephens and Robert Michael Stephens of Wadley 
and John Dewey Stephens of Roanoke; a half-brother, Jarrell Garrett of Roanoke; and 
two grandchildren.
     Pallbearers were Jerrell Hodges, Waymon Hodges, David Harmon, Darell Harmon, 
Jimmy Perry and Donny Perry.
     No flowers were accepted. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to 
one's favorite charity.
     Quattlebaum Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Marion Baldwin

     (ROANOKE) Marion Baldwin, 55, of Rt. 3, Roanoke, died suddenly Friday, Jan. 7, 
1994, in Randolph County Hospital, Roanoke.
     Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 9, at Woodland Church of God, with 
Rev. Charlie Bolt and Rev. Gary Baugh officiating. Burial was in Highway Ridge Memory 
Gardens.
     Mr. Baldwin is survived by his wife, Mrs. Carolyn Baldwin of Roanoke; two sons, 
Dewayne Baldwin and Joseph Baldwin of Roanoke; his mother, Mrs. Mazzie Mulkey of 
Roanoke; two brothers, Marvin Baldwin of Woodland and Aaron Baldwin of Roanoke; 
and four grandchildren.
     Pallbearers were Emmett Smith, David Baldwin, Michael Baldwin, Keith Baldwin, 
Kenneth Baldwin and Jerry Crowe.
     Mr. Baldwin was a native and lifelong resident of Randolph County. He was a wood 
producer by trade. He was a member of the volunteer fire department of the Tin Shop 
community and attended Woodland Church of God.
     Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee was in charge of the arrangements.

Frances Elizabeth Hall

     (WEST POINT, Ga.) Funeral services for Frances Elizabeth Hall, 62, of West Point, 
Ga., were Saturday, Jan. 8, 1994, at 1 p.m. CST from Lime Christian Church with Rev. 
Stanley Yarbrough officiating. Burial followed at the adjoining cemetery.
     Mrs. Hall died Wednesday, Jan. 5, at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.
     A former resident of LaGrange, Mrs. Hall was born June 7, 1931, in Quitman County, 
Ga. She was a member of Lime Christian Church and worked as an LPN/activity director 
with the Florence Hand Nursing Home in LaGrange.
     Survivors include her husband, Walter H. Hall of West Point; a son, Robert (Bobby) 
Hall of LaGrange; two granddaughters, Pami Hall and Whitney Rena Hall of LaGrange; 
her mother, Mrs. Farris Parker of Greenville, Ga.; a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Morrison of 
Madison, Fla.; two brothers, Alvin Parker and Russel Parker of Hawton, La.; and several 
nieces and nephews.

Lessie D. Paige

     (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Lessie D. Paige, 83, of Roanoke were Sunday, 
Jan. 9, 1994, at 3 p.m. from Canaan Baptist Church, with Revs. W. R. Terry and L. B. 
Houston officiating.
     Mrs. Paige died Tuesday, Jan. 4, at Randolph County Hospital, Roanoke.
     She was born Dec. 9, 1910, daughter of the late Ollie and Mattie Drake. At an early 
age, she joined Canaan Baptist Church and attended services faithfully until her health 
failed. She was a member of the Sun-Beam.
     Survivors include her husband, Luther Paige of Roanoke; four daughters, Ms. Dasie 
Melton, Mrs. Sadie Dean and Ms. Maggie Paige of Albany, N.Y., and Ms. Alonza Smith 
of Roanoke; three sons, William Paige of Atlanta, Ga., Oscar Paige of Long Beach, Calif., 
and Leon Paige of Albany, N.Y.; one sister, Mrs. Kensie Green of Albany, N.Y.; 
28 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Frances Elizabeth Lee Cumbee

     (FIVE POINTS) Funeral services for Mrs. Frances Elizabeth Lee Cumbee, 75, of Five

     Mrs. Cumbee died Monday, Jan. 10, at Randolph County Hospital in Roanoke.
     A lifelong resident of Five Points, Mrs. Cumbee was born June 28, 1918, in Chambers 
County, daughter of John and Pearl Smith Lee. She was a homemaker and a member of 
Bethel Baptist Church.
     Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Carol Holderfield of Five Points; a sister, Mrs. 
Edna Burnett, also of Five Points; and two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Thelma Mae Bell Warren

     (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Thelma Mae Bell Warren, 88, of Route 4, Roanoke, 
formerly of LaGrange, Ga., were Tuesday, Jan. 11, 1994, at 1 p.m. CST from Hillside 
Christian Church in LaGrange, with Revs. Ralph Lee and Jerry Willis officiating. Burial 
was at Shadowlawn Cemetery in LaGrange.
     Miss Warren died Monday, Jan. 10, at her residence in Roanoke.
     A long-time resident of LaGrange, Miss Warren was born Aug. 31, 1905, in Clay 
County, Ala., daughter of George William and Minnie Gray Warren. She had lived in 
Roanoke for the past two years. Miss Warren was a member of Hillside Christian Church 
in LaGrange and had worked as a spinner in the textile industry.
     Survivors include two sister, Mrs. Annie Bowen of Route 4, Roanoke, and

Ray Pinkard

     (MILLTOWN) Ray Pinkard, 71, of Milltown died Saturday, Jan. 8, 1994, at East 
Alabama Medical Center in Opelika.
     Funeral services were at Sanders Funeral Home, LaFayette, on Monday, Jan. 10, at 
11 a.m., with Rev. Belon Friday officiating. Burial was in Milltown Cemetery.
     Mr. Pinkard was a member of Milltown Methodist Church, a veteran of World War II, 
and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was retired from Chambers County 
Highway Department.
     Survivors are his wife, Marie Pinkard of Milltown; a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy 
and Donna Pinkard of Milltown; one brother, Rev. Collins Pinkard of Boyce, La.; one 
sister, Loneda Mason of Opelika; and two grandchildren, Andy and Mandy Pinkard of 
Milltown.
     Sanders Funeral Home of LaFayette was in charge of arrangements.

Burma May

     (ROANOKE) Burma May, 77, of Roanoke died Monday, Jan. 10, 1994, at a nursing 
home in Canton, Ga., after a period of declining health.
     Mrs. May was the widow of the late Adam Burdine May, was a retired employee of a 
clothing manufacturing company, and was a member of Roanoke Christian Church.
     Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, from the Chapel of Quattlebaum 
Funeral Home. Interment will be in Cedarwood Cemetery.
     Survivors include three sons, Rev. Ken May of Canton and Tim May and Dennis May 
of Roanoke; one brother, Curtis Hammond of Roanoke; eight grandchildren and 
one great-grandchild.

Emma Dollar Perry

     (WEDOWEE) Emma Dollar Perry, 99, of Wedowee and Traylor Nursing Home, 
Roanoke, died Jan. 11, 1994, at Randolph County Hospital, Roanoke, after an extended 
illness.
     Funeral services for Mrs. Perry were at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, at Midway United 
Methodist Church, with Rev. Cloyse Johnson officiating. Burial was in the adjoining 
cemetery.
     Mrs. Perry is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Irma Holliday of Wedowee and Mrs. 
Jessie Mae Strickland of Valley; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and 
three great-great-grandchildren.
     Pallbearers were family members.
     Mrs. Perry was a native of Randolph County. She had lived in Huguley for a number of 
years but had lived in Randolph County for most of her life. Mrs. Perry was a homemaker 
and a member of Huguley United Methodist Church.
     The family requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Midway United 
Methodist Church cemetery fund or paving fund.

James Thomas Junior Kirby

     (ROANOKE) James Thomas Junior Kirby, 76, of Route 1, Roanoke, died 
Wednesday, Jan. 5, 1994, in Wedowee Hospital, Wedowee, after a short illness.
     Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, at Rock Stand Congregational Christian 
Church, with Rev. Wayne Cowhick and Rev. Joe French officiating. Burial followed in the 
adjoining cemetery.
     Mr. Kirby is survived by his wife, Mrs. Edith Kirby of Roanoke; two daughters, Mrs. 
Cheryl Norred of Jacksonville and Mrs. Teresa Calma of Birmingham; one son, Gordon 
Kirby of Piedmont; three sisters, Mrs. C. C. Williamson and Mrs. Leroy Hurley, both of 
Wedowee, and Mrs. Nell McCarthy of Lyons, Ga.; seven grandchildren and 
three great-grandchildren.
     Pallbearers were Jackie Howell, Oren Williamson, Kenneth Williamson, Zenus 
Williamson, Jamie Jackson and Braxton Kirby.
     Mr. Kirby was a native and lifelong resident of Randolph County. He was retired as 
motor grader operator for Randolph County with 36 years of service and worked for the 
city of Roanoke for seven years. He was a member of Rock Stand Congregational 
Christian Church. He was preceded in death by one son, Capt. Rance Kirby.
     Benefield Funeral Home, Wedowee, was in charge of the arrangements.

Treva Lucille Coffelt

     (ROANOKE) Treva Lucille Coffelt, 61, of Roanoke died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 1994, at 
her home.
     Mrs. Coffelt was preceded in death by her father, Brown Johnson, and a sister, 
Imogene Mays.
     Survivors include her husband, Samuel Coffelt of Roanoke; four sons, Jim Hargis and 
Brad Hargis, both of South Pittsburg, and Samuel M. and James E. Coffelt, both of 
Richard City; one daughter, Mary C. Whaley of Roanoke; her mother, Lillie Johnson of 
Pikeville, Tenn.; three brothers, Gordon Lee Johnson and J. L. Johnson, both of Pikeville, 
and Bill Johnson of West Virginia; seven sisters, Anna Wilson of Rainsville, Virginia Jo 
Graham of Collinsville, Ruby Truman of Ohio, Hazel McBee of Dunlap, Tenn., and 
Devota Smith, Maryetta Smith and Juanita Casper of Pikeville; eight grandchildren and 
one great-grandchild.
     Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, with Rev. Vernon Coffman officiating. 
Burial was in Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens, Jasper.

Otimae Nellie McManus

     (BOWDON, Ga.) Otimae Nellie Treadwell McManus, 75, of Bowdon, Ga., died 
Sunday, Jan. 16, 1994, in Tanner Medical Center, Carrollton, following a brief illness.
     She was born in Cleburne County, Ala., July 6, 1918, the daughter of the late Lewis 
and Alpha Allen Smith. Mrs. McManus was a lifelong resident of this area, a member of 
Ranburne First Baptist Church, and a retired employee of LaMar Manufacturing Co.
     Survivors include her husband, Rev. H. W. McManus of Bowdon; a son, Timmy 
Treadwell of Ranburne, Ala.; two daughters, Mrs. Levonne Lowry and Mrs. Carolyn 
Moore of Ranburne; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Billy 
Smith and Lewis Junior Smith of Ranburne; and four sisters, Mrs. Flossie Gibbs of 
Bowdon and Mrs. Dorthy Alewine, Mrs. I. V. Otwell and Mrs. Bennie Kilgore of 
Ranburne.
     Funeral services were Tuesday, Jan. 18, at 1 p.m. (CST) at Ranburne First Baptist 
Church, with Rev. Chris Hall and Rev. Jerry Wolfe officiating. Music was by the church 
choir. Pallbearers were Grant Moore, Chris Moore, Mike Stitcher, Linwood Kilgore, 
Raymond Otwell and Tim Smith. Interment services were at Cleburne County Memory 
Garden.
     Rainwater-West Funeral Home of Bowdon was in charge of the arrangements.

Ira Lee Traylor

     (LAFAYETTE) Ira Lee Traylor, 89, a resident of LaFayette Extended Care Nursing 
Home, LaFayette, formerly of Five Points, died Saturday morning, Jan. 15, 1994, at 
George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital, Valley.
     Mrs. Traylor is the widow of the late John Willie Traylor. She was the mother of four 
children (three sons and one daughter), all of whom preceded her in death. She was a 
faithful member of Sweet Home Baptist Church in Five Points, where she served as a 
soloist in the choir, a member of the missionary society and mother of the church. She 
had been confined to the LaFayette Extended Care Nursing Home since November 1993.
     Services for Mrs. Traylor will be held Wednesday, Jan. 19, at 1 p.m. from Sweet Home 
Baptist Church, Five Points, with Rev. L. B. Houston officiating. Burial will be in the 
church cemetery.
     Survivors include a foster daughter, Mrs. Mattie Ruth Story of Five Points; five sisters, 
Mrs. Myrtis Jennings, of West Point, Ga., Mrs. Willie King Miller of Rossville, Ga., Mrs. 
Eunice King Moore and Mrs. Lola King Wilkes, both of LaFayette, and Mrs. Ellen King 
of Chattanooga, Tenn.; three brothers, John Robert King of Chattanooga, Bernie Lee 
King of LaFayette and James King of Brooklyn, N.Y.; eight grandchildren and 
two great-grandchildren.
     Arrangements are by Clark Memorial Funeral Service in Roanoke.

Thelma Louise Styres

     (ROANOKE) Graveside funeral services for Thelma Louise Styres, 75, of Route 4, 
Roanoke, will be Wednesday, Jan. 19, 1994, at 2 p.m. from Randolph Memory Gardens, 
with Rev. Jack Maxwell officiating.
     Mrs. Styres died Monday, Jan. 17, at Randolph County Hospital in Roanoke.
     A longtime resident of Randolph County, Mrs. Styres was born in Troup County, Ga., 
daughter of Babe and Mary Smith Hunt. She was a homemaker and a member of 
Fellowship Baptist Church. Her husband, George Styres, preceded her in death.
     Mrs. Styres is survived by a niece, Beth Hill, of Wadley.

OBITUARIES:

Rodney Eugene Cotney

     (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Rodney Eugene Cotney, 42, of Roanoke were 
Monday, Jan. 24, 1994, at 2 p.m. at Roanoke First Baptist Church, with Dr. Douglas 
Turner officiating. Burial was at Davidston Baptist Church cemetery. He died Saturday, 
Jan. 22, in Davidston.
     A resident of Roanoke for the past 11 years, Mr. Cotney was born April 11, 1951, in 
LaFayette. He received a B.S. degree in business administration from Jacksonville State 
University and worked as a traffic coordinator with Atlas Energy Products in LaGrange, 
Ga. He was a deacon of Roanoke First Baptist Church. His father, Leonard Eugene 
Cotney, preceded him in death.
     Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Kay Freeman Cotney of Roanoke; three daughters, 
Emily Kay Cotney, Leah Gene Cotney and Hannah Camille Cotney, all of Roanoke; his 
mother, Mrs. Burnell Cotney of Davidston; a grandmother, Mrs. Eula McCreight of Alex 
City; and three brothers, Randy Cotney, Benny Cotney and Ted Cotney, all of Davidston.
     Pallbearers were Guy Baker, Boyce Bohanan, Byron Morrison, Lamar Yarbrough, 
Ronnie Watts, Junior Bussey, Gary Nelson and Gary Gillespie. Honorary pallbearers were 
friends and deacons of Roanoke First Baptist Church.
     The family suggests that any memorial contributions be made to Roanoke First Baptist 
Church.

James Michael Hutchinson

     (FIVE POINTS) James Michael (Junebug) Hutchinson, 49, of Five Points, died Friday, 
Jan. 21, 1994, at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.
     Funeral services will be at Sweet Home Baptist Church, Five Points, on Wednesday, 
Jan. 26, at 2 p.m. with Rev. L. B. Houston officiating. Interment will be in Sweet Home 
Church cemetery.
     Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Fannie M. Hutchinson of Five Points; three daughters, 
Ms. Denise Hutchinson, Ms. Donyell Hutchinson and Ms. Jamie Hutchinson, all of Five 
Points; one step-brother, Curtis Hutchinson of Atlanta, Ga.; and a host of aunts, uncles, 
nieces, nephews and cousins.
     Mr. Hutchinson was a member of Sweet Home Baptist Church, a deacon and a 
member of the True Sister and Brother of Love and Charity Lodge. He was born in 
Chambers County on June 24, 1944.
     Vines Funeral Home, LaFayette, is in charge of the arrangements.

Rufus Trammell, Jr.

     (LAFAYETTE) Funeral services for Rufus Trammell, Jr., 49, of LaFayette, were at 2 
p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, 1994, at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, LaFayette, with Rev. 
Melvin Owens, pastor, and Rev. Ed Vines officiating. Interment was in Handy's 
Cemetery, LaFayette.
     Mr. Trammell died Thursday, Jan. 20.
     He was born March 18, 1944, in LaFayette, son of the late Mrs. Daisy Ware and Rufus 
Trammell, Sr. He attended Chambers County Training School and was an army veteran of 
the Vietnam War. After his discharge from the service, he made his home in Atlanta, Ga.
     Survivors include one son, Corey Trammell of Atlanta; three sisters, Mrs. Annie Jo 
Vines of Brooklyn, N.Y., Miss Mattie Ruth Trammell of Ocala, Fla., and Miss Phyllis 
Trammell of Chicago, Ill.; one brother, Ben Trammell of Atlanta; and five nephews, 
one niece, two aunts and an uncle.
     Arrangements were by Vines Funeral Home, LaFayette.

Ethel Crouch Adcock

     (SYLACAUGA) Ethel Crouch Adcock, 95, of Sylacauga, died Monday, Jan. 24, 1994, 
at Coosa Valley Medical Center in Sylacauga.
     Mrs. Adcock was born in Randolph County on July 30, 1898, daughter of James Henry 
and Dora Lyles Crouch and was a lifelong resident of the county. She was preceded in 
death by her husband, Solomon E. Adcock, and son, C. Crouch Adcock, and was the last 
survivor of 13 children. She was a homemaker.
     Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, at Friendship Christian Church, 
Wedowee, with interment in the church cemetery. Pallbearers are grandsons.
     Survivors include two daughters, Sollie Riley of Dothan and Willadeen Thompson of 
Sylacauga; five grandsons, two granddaughters, 11 great-grandchildren and 
one great-great-grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.
     Arrangements are by Curtis and Son Funeral Home, Sylacauga.

Marijo Huey Cope

     (WEST COLUMBIA, Tex.) Services for Marijo Huey Cope of West Columbia, Tex., 
were at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, 1994, at the Chapelwood United Methodist Church in 
Lake Jackson, Tex., with Dr. Bob Joiner officiating.
     Mrs. Cope, whose early years were spent in Roanoke, Ala., died Thursday, Jan. 20, at 
Brazosport Memorial Hospital in Lake Jackson after a lengthy illness.
     Survivors include her husband, Jim Cope of West Columbia; her mother, Mrs. Alva 
Huey of Roanoke; three sons, Steve Cope of Bloomington, Minn., Dirk Cope of 
Angleton, Tex., and Shawn Cope of Lake Jackson; one sister, Mrs. Raymond Landers of 
Roanoke; and five grandsons and one granddaughter.

Sarah Kirby Bassett

     (ROANOKE) Sarah Kirby Bassett, 60, of Rt. 1, Roanoke, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 
1994, in West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange, after an extended illness.
     Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, at Rock Stand Congregational 
Christian Church, with Rev. Wayne Cowhick and Rev. Kenneth Perry officiating. Burial 
was in the adjoining cemetery.
     Mrs. Bassett is survived by her husband, Lewis Ed Bassett of Roanoke; one daughter, 
Mrs. Sarah Ann Messer of Wedowee; four sons, Kirby Bassett, Charles Bassett, Bill 
Bassett and Pat Bassett, all of Roanoke; one brother, Harmon Kirby of Franklin, Ga.; 
five grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.
     Pallbearers were Ford Langley, Earl Kirby, John Harmon, Jeff Napier, Johnathan 
Henderson and Joey Kirby.
     Mrs. Bassett was a native and lifelong resident of Randolph County. She was a 
homemaker, a seamstress with Palm Beach Company for 35 years and a member of Rock 
Stand Congregational Christian Church.

Johnnie Clyde Morton

     (VALLEY) Funeral services for Johnnie Clyde Morton, 72, of Valley were Saturday, 
Jan. 22, 1994, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with Revs. Cecil Halsey and 
S. T. Janney officiating. Burial was at Mt. Zion Christian Church cemetery.
     Mr. Morton died Thursday, Jan. 20, at the V.A. Hospital in Tuskegee.
     A Randolph County native, Mr. Morton was born Nov. 16, 1922, son of John Will and 
Ida Verna Jeter Morton. He wsa a World War II veteran, a member of Pleasant Springs 
Baptist Church and had worked as a weaver with Lanier Mills.
     Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lola Morton of Columbus, Ga.; two sons, Bobbie Lee 
Morton of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Wayne Morton of Columbus; two sisters, Mrs. Ellen 
Bryant of Plantation, Fla., and Mrs. Frances Whitley of Griffin, Ga.; two brothers, 
Clarence Morton of Roanoke and J. B. Morton of Tallapoosa, Ga.; and 
three grandchildren.

     (FORT PIERCE, Fla.) Debbie R. Rowe, 34, of Fort Pierce, Fla., died Wednesday, Jan. 
19, 1994, at Indian River Memorial Hospital, Vero Beach, Fla.
     Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 24, at St. John United Methodist Church, Fort 
Pierce, with Rev. Blondy Smith officiating. Graveside services and burial will be 
Wednesday, Jan. 26, at Mount Olive United Methodist Church in the Dickert community 
of Randolph County, with Rev. Hollis Boykin officiating.
     Survivors include Ms. Rowe's mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Arnold 
(Margaret Rowe) of Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters, Valerie Arnold and Chandra Arnold of 
Kansas City; a brother, Joseph C. Arnold Jr. of Kansas City; a special cousin raised as a 
brother, Jimmy Moore of South Korea; her grandmother, Mrs. Eldora Rowe of Fort 
Pierce; and four aunts, Ms. Doris Rowe and Ms. Hazel Rowe of Fort Pierce, Mrs. Thelma 
Bell of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Mrs. Ruby Staples of Kansas City.

Thomas Jordan Nolen

     (BAINBRIDGE, Ga.) Thomas Jordan Nolen, 89, a resident of Bainbridge, Ga., for the 
past 40 years, died Monday, Jan. 17, 1994, at Memorial Manor Nursing Home in 
Bainbridge.
     Mr. Nolen was born in Randolph County, Ala., May 29, 1904. He was a retired service 
station operator and farmer, and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 
Roanoke, Ala.
     Survivors include his wife, Lucille Brown Nolen of Bainbridge; one son, Harold 
Buddy Nolen of Bainbridge; one daughter, Lynda Nolen Sams of Bainbridge; 
two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
     Funeral services for Mr. Nolen were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, at Ivey Funeral 
Home Chapel in Bainbridge, with interment at Roselawn Memory Gardens there. 
Officiating ministers were Rev. Larry Lovvorn and Rev. Dick Dickinson.
     Active pallbearers were Joe Moye, Gene Powell, Lamont Bullock, Kim Davis, Joe 
Conyers and Jimmy Nolen.
     Arrangements were by Ivey Funeral Home.
