Doris Richardson Tillman

   (BAINBRIDGE, Ga.) Doris Richardson Tillman, 64, of Rt. 4, Bainbridge, 
Ga., died
Wednesday, Mar. 31[, 1993], at her residence.
   Survivors include her husband, Lee Tillman of Bainbridge; a son, Bud 
Tillman of Roanoke;
three daughters, Diane Bamburg of Quitman, Ga., Dean Rhinehart of 
Tallahassee, Fla., and
Rosa Collins of Camilla, Ga.; two brothers, Charlie Bill Richardson of 
Acworth, Ga., and Buddy
Richardson of Bainbridge; four sisters, Josephine Riggs of Pelham, Ga., Nora 
Miller of Sylvester,
Ga., Elaine Edwards of New Orleans, La., and Katrina Sinyard of 
Jacksonville, Fla.;
13 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
   Mrs. Tillman was a homemaker and a member of Morningside Baptist Church, 
Bainbridge.
   Funeral services were Friday, April 2, 1993, at 2 p.m. at Morningside 
Baptist Church,
Bainbridge, with burial at Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Colquitt 
County, Ga. Rev. Hart
and Dr. Billy Southerland officiated. Pallbearers were Mrs. Tillman's 
nephews.
   Ivey Funeral Home of Bainbridge was in charge of arrangements.

Margaret Virginia Head

   (VALLEY) Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Virginia Head, 71, of Valley, 
formerly of Roanoke,
were Friday, Apr. 2, 1993, at 3 p.m. from Roanoke First United Methodist 
Church, with Rev. Milton
Booth officiating. Burial was at Randolph Memory Gardens.
   Mrs. Head died Wednesday, Mar. 31, at her residence.
   A Randolph County native, she was born Nov. 4, 1921, daughter of John 
Samuel and Dora Cooper
Yarbrough. She was a member of Roanoke First United Methodist Church and had 
owned/operated
a grocery store until her retirement.
   Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Ellen Price of Lanett and Mrs. 
Phyllis Crozier of
Prattville; a brother, Awbrey Yarbrough of Rock Mills; and four 
grandchildren and two great-
grandchildren. Her husband, White Head, preceded her in death.
   Pallbearers were Nick Robinson, John Crozier, Darby Head, Arnold Smith, 
Billy Royston and
Milton Moon.
   In lieu of flowers, the family suggested that, in [sic] memorial 
contributions be made to
Roanoke First United Methodist Church.
   Quattlebaum Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Johnny J. Rowe

   (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Johnny J. Rowe, 75, of Roanoke, were 
Saturday, Apr. 3, 1993,
from Taylor's Crossroads Church of Christ, with Rev. Johnny Williams and 
Rev. S. T. Janney
officiating. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
   Mr. Rowe died Thursday, Apr. 1, 1993, at Randolph County Hospital.
   A Randolph County native, he was born Oct. 4, 1917, son of James Truitt 
and Anna Arrington
Rowe. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church. His wife, Mrs. Elsie Lela 
Scott Rowe, a daughter,
Mrs. Virginia Kelley, and a sister, Mrs. Sue Taylor, preceded him in death.
   Survivors include six daughters, Mrs. Jane Tillis of Wadley, Mrs. Gloria 
Wright of Standing
Rock, Mrs. Nancy Smith of Big Springs, Mrs. Mary Hodges of Wadley, Mrs. 
Donna Bozeman of Roanoke
and Mrs. Wanda Barber of Roanoke; two sons, Jackson Rowe and Wiley Rowe, 
both of Roanoke;
a sister, Mrs. Mattie Prince of Conyers, Ga.; a brother, Bill Rowe of 
LaGrange, Ga.; and
17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Joey Hodges, Jody Rowe, Craig Hodges, David Kelley, 
James Kelley and
Jimmy Rowe.

John Amos Finch

   (ATLANTA) Services for John Amos Finch, 51, of Atlanta, Ga., were at 3 
p.m. Sunday,
April 4, 1993, at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Roanoke, Ala., with Rev. R. L. 
Heflin, pastor,
officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
   Mr. Finch died March 30 at Georgia Baptist Medical Center in Atlanta.
   He was born Aug. 21, 1941, in Randolph County, Ala., son of the late Roy 
and Lois Finch.
   Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Earnestine Finch of Atlanta; one son, 
John Earl Finch of
Atlanta; one sister, Mrs. Sallie Pinkard of Atlanta; two brothers, Leroy 
Finch of Ellenwood,
Ga., and Jesse Lewis Finch of Atlanta; his mother, Mrs. Lois Finch of 
Tuscaloosa; and two
stepchildren, Nolan McClendon and Cynthia McClendon of Atlanta.
   Arrangements were by Vines Funeral Home of LaFayette.

   (ANNISTON) Hazel M. Nunnally, 70, of Anniston died Monday, Apr. 5, 1993, 
at Northeast
Alabama Regional Medical Center in Anniston.
   Graveside services for Mrs. Nunnally will be Wednesday, Apr. 7, at 2 p.m. 
at Forestlawn
Gardens, with Rev. Gary Baugh officiating.
   Survivors include her husband, Noble Nunnally of Anniston; two daughters, 
Mrs. Sandra Hicks
and Mrs. Pat Ray of Roanoke; two sons, Terry Nunnally of Roanoke and Jimmy 
Nunnally of Anniston;
two sisters, Mrs. Mary Griffith of Jacksonville and Mrs. Dorothy Cassarina 
of Connecticut;
eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and 
nephews.

Walter J. Bartlett

   (WEDOWEE) Walter J. Bartlett, 83, of Wedowee died Thursday, Apr. 1, 1993, 
in West Georgia
Medical Center, LaGrange, after an extended illness.
   Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, Apr. 3, 1993, at First United 
Methodist Church,
Wedowee, with Rev. Harris Hand, Rev. Jim Sawyer, and Rev. Bob Parris 
officiating. Burial was in
Wedowee City Cemetery.
   Mr. Bartlett was a native of Atlanta, Ga., but had lived most of his life 
in Randolph County.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wedowee, Sawyer 
Lodge No. 93 F&AM, VFW,
American Legion, Chamber of Commerce and Wedowee Kiwanis Club, and had 
served as lieutenant
governor of the Kiwanis district. A man of many talents, he was a former 
administrator of Wedowee
Hospital, the owner of an insurance agency, and a local historian who had 
articles on Randolph
County's history published in the county newspapers. He was a veteran of 
World War II. He began
his professional life as a teacher and athletic coach in the Randolph County 
school system.
   Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Cordell Bartlett of Wedowee; two 
daughters, Mrs. JoAnn Lanier
of Biloxi, Miss., and Mrs. Judy Cofield of Knoxville, Tenn.; five 
grandchildren and one great-
grandchild; one sister, Mrs. Earl Keeble of LaGrange; two brothers, Blake 
Bartlett of Woodland,
Ga., and Jack Bartlett of Roanoke.
   Pallbearers were Bernard Austin, Robert Wylie, Ralph Benefield, Lee 
Harley, Benny Camp,
Bob Moss, Tommy Burnside and Bob Perry. Honorary pallbearers were members of 
the Kiwanis Club.
   Benefield Funeral Home, Wedowee, was in charge of arrangements.

Cecil B. Parker Sr.

   (CRAGFORD) Funeral services for Cecil B. Parker Sr., 81, of Cragford, 
were Saturday,
Apr. 3, 1993, at 2 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Chapel of Lineville, with Rev. 
Randy Anderson and
Rev. Wilton Gregg officiating. Burial was in Corinth Baptist Church 
Cemetery.
   Mr. Parker died Thursday, Apr. 1[,] at his residence.
   He was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County and former owner of 
Parker's Grocery, had
served as Clay County commissioner of District 3 from 1965 through 1968, had 
served as ASCS
committeeman, and had served as FHA board member. Mr. Parker taught singing 
schools in the
1930s and was a member of the Alabama Happy Four Quartet in the 1940s. He 
was a member of
Corinth Baptist Church, where he served as a past deacon chairman.
   He is survived by one daughter, Clara P. Mauldin of Cragford; one son, 
Cecil B. Parker Jr.
[residence not listed]; one sister, Lottie Birchfield of Manchester, Ga.; 
and five grandchildren
and three great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Chris Parker, Scott Hanna, T. R. Burke, Alf (Scooter) 
McCain, Jimmy Morris
and Mike Morris.

Annie Kate Carroll

   (ROANOKE) Graveside services for Annie Kate Carroll, 86, of Roanoke were 
Tuesday,
Apr. 6, 1993, at 2 p.m. from Cedarwood Cemetery, with Rev. Bobby Burroughs 
and Rev. Milton
Booth officiating.
   Mrs. Carroll died Sunday, Apr. 4, at Randolph County Hospital.
   A lifelong resident of Roanoke, Mrs. Carroll was born in Winston County 
on Oct. 4, 1906,
daughter of John Gilbert and Martha Sledge Gay. She has worked as a weaver 
with Handley Mills.
Her husband, John Emmett Carroll, preceded her in death.
   Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Carolyn C. Adams of Roanoke and 
Mrs. Cathryn G. Clark
of of [sic] Coca, Fla.; two sons, John T. Carroll of Roanoke and James E. 
Carroll of Kings
Mountain, N.C.; three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Birdsong of Roanoke, Mrs. 
Nannie Gaines of
Birmingham, and Mrs. Inez Warren of Bowdon, Ga.; one brother, W. M. Bill 
Gay of Ranburne;
five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren[;] and several nieces and 
nephews.

Kimberly Ann Christopher

   (SYLACAUGA) Kimberly Ann Christopher, 28, of Sylacauga died Sunday, Apr. 
4, 1993, in
Coosa Valley Medical Center, Sylacauga.
   Mrs. Christopher was born Feb. 5, 1965, the daughter of Leon and Gladys 
Tanner Gill. She was
a 1983 graduate of Sylacauga High School and a homemaker.
   Funeral services were Tuesday, Apr. 6, at 2 p.m. at Curtis and Son South 
Chapel, with Rev.
Keith Christopher and Rev. Eddie Forbus officiating. Burial was in Evergreen 
Memorial Cemetery.
   Mrs. Christopher is survived by her husband, Sonny Christopher of 
Sylacauga; one son, Nikki
Lee Christopher of Sylacauga; her parents, Gladys Gill of Sylacauga and 
Betty and Jimmy Whaley
of Alexander City; four brothers, Bill Gill, Leon Gill, Scott Whaley and 
Jeff Whaley, all of
Sylacauga; three sisters, Barbara Whaley, Margaret Weathers and Wanda 
Gissendanner, all of
Sylacauga; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Lucy Lee Washington

   (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Lucy Lee Washington, 80, of Roanoke were 
Sunday,
Apr. 4, 1993, at 4 p.m. from Roanoke First Baptist Church, with Dr. Doug 
Turner officiating.
Burial was at Randolph Memory Gardens.
   Mrs. Washington died Friday, Apr. 2, at Randolph County Hospital.
   A Choctaw County native, she was born in Butler, Ala., Dec. 26, 1912, 
daughter of the late
Dr. William George and Mary Harriet Craig Carnathan. She received her B.S. 
degree from
Livingston University in 1957.
   Mrs. Washington was a retired teacher, having worked as coordinator of 
special education for
the Roanoke City Schools. She was a member of the REA, AEA, NEA, CEC, 
Alabama Rehabilitation
Association, and Randolph County Association for Retarded Citizens.
   She was the organizing Regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution 
in Randolph County,
served as Regent in the Alabama Division of Magna Charta Dames, Alabama 
Division of the
Daughters of American Colonists and Colonial Dames XVII Century, and was a 
member of the
Roanoke Bicentennial Commission, Randolph County Historical Society, 
Magnolia Garden Club
and First Baptist Church, where she had been a Sunday school teacher.
   Survivors include her husband, Jesse Clifford Washington of Roanoke; two 
sons, Joseph C.
Washington of Washington, D.C., and George C. Washington of Alexandria, 
Va.[;] and five
grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were nephews of Mrs. Washington.
   In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to 
the Annie L. Awbrey
Library.

Mary Nell Bibby

   (WADLEY) Mary Nell Bibby, 74, of Wadley died Friday, Apr. 2, 1993, at 
East Alabama
Medical Center in Opelika.
   Funeral services for Mrs. Bibby were Sunday, Apr. 4, at 2 p.m. at Sanders 
Funeral Home in
LaFayette, with Ray Dunn officiating. Burial was in LaFayette City Cemetery. 
Pallbearers were
her nephews.
   Mrs. Bibby was retired as lunchroom manager at Daviston High School after 
30 years of service.
She received her GED from Southern Union at age 70. She was a member of 
Daviston Baptist Church.
   Mrs. Bibby is survived by her husband, James E. (Bill) Bibby of Wadley; 
three daughters, Peggy
Hurst of Opelika, Brenda Mattox of Wadley and Amanda Lackey of Forest Park, 
Ga.; two sisters,
Reba Satterfield of Jonesboro, Ga., and Cora Denham of Riverdale, Ga.; four 
grandchildren and
six great-grandchildren.

Herbert McManus

   (WOODLAND) Herbert McManus, 64, of Rt. 2, Woodland, died Saturday, Apr. 
3, 1993,
in West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange, after a short illness.
   Funeral services were at 4 p.m., Monday, Apr. 5, at Noon Day 
Congregational Christian Church,
with Rev. Kenneth Johnson and Rev. Greg Gregory officiating. Burial was in 
the adjoining cemetery.
   Mr. McManus is survived by his wife, Mrs. Essie Mae McManus of Woodland; 
three sons, Kenneth
McManus of Powder Springs, Ga., Darrell McManus of Wedowee, and Joe McManus 
of Newell; four
granddaughters; one great-grandson; two sisters, Mrs. Curula Pilkington and 
Mrs. Mary Jo Akins of
Valley; and one brother, Maley McManus of Valley.
   Pallbearers were nephews. Honorary pallbearers were friends of the church 
and community.
   Mr. McManus was a native and lifelong resident of Randolph County. He was 
retired as a
carpenter in the construction industry. He was the son of the late Joe 
McManus and Ethel Moore
McManus.
   Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee was in charge of the arrangements.

Dr. Carrol Sasser

   (HAMILTON) Dr. Carrol Sasser, who formerly worked with Dr. Chester Primm 
in the practice
of medicine in Roanoke, died Thursday, Mar. 25, 1993, at Carraway Methodist 
Medical Center in
Birmingham after about two years of declining health. He was 56.
   He had practiced medicine in Hamilton, Ala., for 20 years but had to stop 
last November
because of his illness.
   A sufferer of diabetes, he had undergone surgery for amputation of a foot 
and part of a leg
two days before his death from apparent heart complications. He was quoted 
as saying after the
operation, I'll still be able to see my patients in a wheelchair.
   A native of Tennessee, Dr. Sasser received a premedical degree from 
Freed-Hardeman University
and his medical degree in 1970 from the University of Tennessee. He was a 
member of Hamilton
Church of Christ.
   Survivors include his wife, Diane; his children, Rhonda, a nurse who 
practiced by her father's
side, and Melody, a junior in high school; his mother, Hazel Sasser of 
Middleton, Tenn.; and
three sisters, Joyce Yarbrough of Tinley Park, Ill., Kay Reed of Huntsville 
and Glenda
Sasser-Rogers of Jackson, Tenn.
   Services for Dr. Sasser were Sunday, Mar. 28, at Hamilton Church of 
Christ. Dale Jenkins and
Gerald Romine officiated, with Hamilton Funeral Home directing. Burial was 
at Hamilton
Memory Gardens.

Sherrod Dunn

   (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Sherrod Dunn Jr., 76, of Roanoke[,] were 
Wednesday,
April 7, 1993, at 3 p.m. from Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, with Rev. 
Maynard McGinty and
J. W. Brown officiating. Burial was at the adjoining cemetery.
   Mr. Dunn died Tuesday, April 6, at his Chambers County residence.
   A Chambers County native, he was born September 12, 1916, son of Sherrod 
H. Dunn Sr.
and Murlie Ussery Dunn. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and 
the Roanoke
Kiwanis Club and has worked in the State of Alabama Employment Service 
office. His parents
and a sister, Mrs. Virginia Taylor, preceded him in death.
   Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Elaine Henry of Roanoke; a niece, Mrs. 
Patricia Hanson of
LaGrange; and a nephew, Raymond Henry of Lanett.
   Pallbearers were Clark Brown, Ellis Brown, Billy Self, Kenneth Mapp, 
James Peek and
Herbert Pike.

   (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Emory V. Ward, 82, of Roanoke[,] were 
Saturday,
April 10, 1993, at 3 p.m. from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with the Rev. S.

officiating. Burial will follow [sic] at Cedarwood Cemetery.
   Mr. Ward died Thursday, April 8, at his residence in Roanoke.
   A Chambers County native, Mr. Ward was born Jan. 20, 1911, son of William 
Walter and
Mary Pinkard Ward. He worked at Handley Mills.
   Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Dyar of Douglasville, Ga.; two 
sons, Wayne Ward
and Darnell Ward, both of Roanoke; a sister, Mrs. Grace Houze of Garland, 
Tex.; a brother,
Garvis Ward of Cusseta; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Irene Boyd

   (WOODLAND) Irene Boyd, 80, of Woodland, died Wednesday, Apr. 7, 1993, at 
Regional
Medical Center in Anniston.
   Mrs. Boyd was born Nov. 4, 1912, in Randolph County, Ala., daughter of 
the late Mr. and Mrs.
Eugene Wilson. She was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. Her husband, 
Gordon Boyd,
preceded her in death, as did a daughter, Jimmie Bell Davenport, and a son, 
Jesse C. Boyd.
   Survivors include one son, Willie Harold Boyd, a special cousin, 
Jacqueline Madden;
six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, 
nephews and cousins.
   Services for Mrs. Boyd were at 2 p.m. Sunday, Apr. 11, at Mt. Gilead 
Baptist Church, Newell,
with Rev. W. H. Trammell, pastor, officiating. Interment was in the church 
cemetery.
   Arrangements were by Vines Funeral Home, LaFayette.

Cecil Claxton Carroll

   (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Cecil Claxton Carroll, 71, of Route 3, 
Roanoke, were Sunday,

and Roy Avery officiating. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
   Mr. Carroll died Friday, Apr. 9, 1993, at Randolph County Hospital.
   A former resident of Bowdon, Ga., he was born in Blakely County, Ga., 
Nov. 21, 1921, son of
Olin and Elizabeth Manning Carroll. He served in the Army during World War 
II and was a member
of Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church. He had worked as a weaver at the Elm 
City textile plant
in LaGrange, Ga.
   Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Linda Lawson of Roanoke and Mrs. 
Ann Beddoe of
Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Mrs. Frances Yancey and Mrs. Ruby Lape, both of 
LaGrange;
four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and 
nephews.
   Pallbearers were Rodger Denney, John Glass, Bryan Hill, Tony Hendrix, 
Larry Clark and
Eddie Henry.

   (ROANOKE) Jessie McClendon, 60, died March 31, 1993, at St. Louis 
University Hospital,
St. Louis, Mo.
   Mr. McClendon was born March 31, 1933, son of the late Albert and Lizzie 
McClendon.
He served in the U.S. Army.
   Survivors include five sisters, Mrs. Willie Lee Smith, Mrs. Susie Mae 
Phillips, Mrs. Mary
(Elliott) Nelson and Mrs. Annie R. McClendon Foster, all of Roanoke, and 
Mrs. Shirley Ann
Staples of Atlanta, Ga.; one brother, Robert McClendon of Roanoke; and a 
host of nieces,
nephews and other relatives.
   Services for Mr. McClendon were at 2 p.m. Saturday, Apr. 10, at Canaan 
Baptist Church, Welch,
Rev. W. R. Terry, pastor, officiating.
   Arrangements were by Silmon Mortuary, Roanoke.

Doris Drummond

   (WEDOWEE) Doris Drummond, 62, of Wedowee, died Sunday, Apr. 11[, 1993], 
at Randolph
County Hospital, Roanoke.
   Services were at Union Chapel UM Church, Wedowee, Tuesday, Apr. 13, at 2 
p.m., with
Rev. R. L. Smith officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
   Mrs. Drummond is survived by her husband, Willie J. Drummond of Helfin 
[sic  Heflin];
six children, Diane Drummond, Willie Ed Drummond, Odessa Drummond, Yvonia 
Knight,
Tommy Drummond and Jimmy Drummond, all of Wedowee; one stepson, Willie James
Drummond of Carrollton, Ga.; three sisters, Celia Roberson, Charlie Mae 
Molden, and
Fannie May Green, all of Wedowee; and 22 grandchildren and three 
great-grandchildren.
   Mrs. Drummond was a member of Union Chapel UM Church. She was born in 
Randolph
County April 4, 1931.

   Mr. Whaley died Tuesday, Apr. 13, at West Georgia Medical Center, 
LaGrange.
   A lifelong resident of Randolph County, he was born June 15, 1921, son of 
Charlie and Ruby
Cofield Whaley. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II, was a 
member of Rock
Mills Methodist Church, and was a self-employed oil distributor. His parents 
preceded him in
death.
   Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Wilma Jean Knight Whaley; three 
daughters, Mrs. Susan Salatto
of Wadley and Mrs. Lora Jones and Mrs. Pam Daniel, both of Roanoke; a son, 
Pat Whaley of
Roanoke; a sister, Mrs. Geneva Bailey of Orlando, Fla.; two brothers, Hope 
Whaley and Ralph
Whaley, both of Roanoke; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
   The family received friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening and will 
receive again from
6 to 9 Wednesday evening. The body will lie in state at the church for one 
hour beginning at one
o'clock the day of the service, Thursday, Apr. 15.
   Pallbearers will be Tim Whaley, Ronny Whaley, Felix Whaley, Mike Whaley, 
Donny Truitt
and Pete Whaley.

Kiwala, Hawaii, and Charles Bedford of Atlanta; her mother, Mrs. Dorothy

Thomaston; one sister, Mrs. Cora Ann Presley of Roanoke; seven brothers,

   A lifelong resident of Roanoke, Mr. Clack was born Apr. 13, 1942, in

Pearl B. Williams

   (LANETT) Mrs. Pearl B. Williams, 90, of Lanett died Sunday, Apr. 11, 
1993, at Lanier
Memorial Nursing Home in Valley.
   Mrs. Williams was born July 28, 1902, in Wedowee. Prior to her 
retirement, Mrs. Williams
worked as a school teacher and principal in the Randolph County School 
system for 38 years.
She was very active in the Church of Christ. Most recently, she was a member 
of Valley
Church of Christ.
   She is survived by two sons, Pat Williams of Tucker, Ga., and Erwin 
Williams of Huguley;
two sisters, Myra Fowler of Villa Rica, Ga., and Tommie Jones of Jay, Fla.; 
one brother,
Elan Bailey of Sylacauga; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
   Funeral services were Tuesday, Apr. 13, at 1 p.m. at Broad Street Church 
of God in Wedowee
with Rev. Joe Young officiating. Interment was at Wedowee City Cemetery.

   (ROANOKE) Alfred Leon Bryan, 75, of Roanoke, died at his niece's 
residence, Tuesday,
Apr. 13, 1993.
   Mr. Bryan, a native of Chambers County, was a retired brakeman with the 
R&R Railroad.
His family requests that memorials be made to the Chattahoochee Hospice 
Society.
   Survivors include a brother, John Howard Bryan of Birmingham; a sister, 
Evelyn Crew of
Jesup [sic], Ga.; two stepsons, Jimmy Earles of Morrow, Ga., and Comer 
Earles of Opelika;
two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and 
nephews.
   Cremation services were held Tuesday, Apr. 13, in Atlanta, and there was 
a memorial service
at Faith Baptist Church in Roanoke at 2 p.m. Thursday, Apr. 15. Rev. S. T.

1993, at his home.

Lanett.
   Born July 17, 1917, in Randolph County, Mr. Shepard was a retired

Church.

   (DAYTON, Ohio) Charles (Uncle Bus) Emory, 80, of 2929 Home Ave., Dayton, 
Ohio, died
Sunday, Apr. 11, 1993, at the V.A. Medical Center after a brief illness.
   A native of Roanoke, and a Dayton resident for over 50 years, Mr. Emory 
served in the
United States Army and was a retired employee of G. H. & R Foundry after 39 
years of service.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise, and a daughter, June Hucke.
   Mr. Emory is survived by three daughters, Vonnie Richey and Inez Fonville 
of Dayton[,] and
Joyce Thompson of Akron, Oh.; three sisters, Mary Herd and Opal Smedley of 
Dayton[,] and
Edith Huston of Chicago, Ill.; one brother, Roy Emory of Cincinnati, Oh.;

teller.

and Mrs. Ben Cofield;
her husband, Thomas Gross Shelnutt; a daughter, Katherine Dunlap; and a son,

Clarence Frieson Jr.

   (ROANOKE) Transformational services for Clarence Frieson Jr., 43, of 
Roanoke, were at
2 p.m. Tuesday, May [sic  April] 20 ,1993, at Bethel United Methodist 
Church in Roanoke,
with Rev. William Crawford, pastor, officiating.
   Mr. Frieson died suddenly Thursday afternoon, Apr. 15, as the result of a 
heart attack. Just
two days prior to his death, he had met the requirements for licensure as a 
funeral director,
having joined his wife four years ago in the operation of the family firm, 
Clark Memorial
Funeral Service.
  He was born in Columbus, Miss., on Sept. 24, 1949, son of Clarence Frieson 
Sr. and Betty Louise
Morton Frieson. He attended public schools in Tuscaloosa, Ala., and served 
in the United States
Navy during the Vietnam Conflict. Before relocating in Randolph County, he 
was employed for
18 years with Uniroyal-Goodrich Tire Co. in Tuscaloosa, and he was a recent 
employee of Amoco
Fabrics and Fibers in Roanoke.
   A member of Bethel United [Methodist] Church, Mr. Frieson served in 
several positions of
leadership. He was a member of Western Lodge 538, Prince Hall Masons, served 
on the executive
board of the Randolph County Branch of NAACP, and was a member of the City 
of Roanoke
Utilities Board.
   Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Charlotte A. Clark-Frieson, and two 
children, Wilkie Sherard
Frieson and Je'Lynn Mikele Frieson, all of Roanoke; his mother, Mrs. Betty 
L. Frieson of
Tuscaloosa; his father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Frieson Sr. of

   Mrs. Dollar died Thursday, Apr. 22 at her residence.
   A native of Mountville, Troup County, Ga., Mrs. Dollar was born Feb. 5, 
1912, daughter of
A. C. and Florence Wells Partridge. She was a homemaker and a member of the 
First
Congregational Christian Church of Roanoke and the Women's Fellowship of the 
church. She
had served as treasurer of the AARP, treasurer, superintendent and clerk of 
the church, and
secretary of the East Alabama Association of the United Churches of Christ 
for many years.
Mrs. Dollar was preceded in death by her husbands, C. Carl Dollar and Jesse 
H. Dollar.
   Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Penny Dollar of Richmond, Va.; a son, 
John A. Dollar of
Pineville, La.; three sisters, Mrs. Sarah P. Austin of Hogansville, Ga.,

   Born Nov. 4, 1911, in Randolph County, Ala., Mrs. Crenshaw was a member 
of the
Congregational Christian faith.
   She lived in the Huguley area for the past 53 years, where she was a 
babysitter and known
for her quilting. She had been in declining health for the past three years.
   Survivors include three daughters, Carolyn Herring of Merlin, Tex., 
Ozella Still of Huguley,
and Tommie Freeman of LaGrange, Ga.; two brothers, Eugene Brown of Randolph 
County and
Odel Brown of Huguley; three sisters, Eris McKenn of LaGrange,  and Vaudie 
Bailey and
Eliza Poole of Randolph County; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

   Mrs. Brown was born in Randolph County on Nov. 9, 1928, and lived in the 
Lanett area

Laura Katherine Burgess

   (ANNISTON) Laura Katherine Burgess, 38, died in an automobile accident of 
Apr. 2, 1993,
in Orange Beach, Ala. Mrs. Burgess was traveling with her husband and son, 
both of whom
survived the accident.
   Mrs. Burgess worked with Alabama Power Co. in Roanoke and lived at 506 
East 6th St. in
Anniston. She was a graduate of Western Kentucky University, where she was a 
member of
Chi Omega sorority. She was a member of the Parker Memorial Baptist Church 
in Anniston.
   Survivors include her husband, Gene Edward Burgess, and her son, Garrett 
Clark Burgess;
her parents, Ralph and Katherine Clark of Anniston; and her brothers, M.

Anniston and W. Scott Clark of Orlando, Fla.

   Mrs. Crane is survived by one daughter, Deana Adamson of Valley; two

   (LINEVILLE) Funeral services for Lois K. Mote, 95, of Lineville were 
Tuesday, Apr. 27, 1993,
at 2 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Gordon Taylor 
officiating. Burial was in
Lineville City Cemetery.
   Mrs. Mote died Sunday, Apr. 25, at Canterbury Health Facility in Phenix 
City. She was a native
of Randolph County but had lived the past 47 years in Clay County. She was a 
homemaker and a
member of Wesley Chapel Congregational Christian Church.
   She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Maudine McCollough of Pensacola, 
Fla., and
Mrs. Mildred Seegar and Mrs. Lola McGarr of Phenix City; four grandchildren 
and four great-
grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, George R. Mote.
   Pallbearers were Mrs. Mote's grandsons and nephews.
   Benefield Funeral Home of Lineville was in charge of arrangements.
