1921 - 2002

Leonard O. Elam, age 80, of Mansfield, died Wednesday January 30, 2002 
at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. Leonard went home to be with his 
Lord. 

He was born April 19, 1921 to Herbert and Lida Hamilton Elam in 
Magoffin County, Kentucky (both now deceased). He married Velma Knowlton, 
August 31, 1947 in Akron, Ohio. He was a loving husband and father of four 
sons. Leonard and Velma moved to Mansfield in August of 1956 where he 
was employed by General Motors as a machinist, retiring in 1986 after 
30 years of service. He was also a member of the Mansfield Baptist Temple 
where he was an Ordained Deacon and Head Usher for many years. He also 
enjoyed his work and was a member of Local #549, a past Cub Scout 
Leader in Lucas and was an avid reader.

He is survived by his wife, Velma Elam; three sons and 
daughters-in-law, Brian and Linda Elam of B.C. Canada; Daniel and Linda Elam of 
Pataskala, Ohio; and Russell and Robin Elam of Dayville, Connecticut; 10 
grandchildren; and four great-grandsons; two brothers, Rodney Elam and 
Lowell Elam; one sister, Rosemary Nock of Jamestown, Ohio. 

Besides his parents he is preceded in death by one son, James Elam in 1983; two 
sisters, Mildred Pinkston and Betty Dawson.

Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral 
Directors on Sunday February 3, 2002 from 1-3 p.m. and one hour prior to funeral 
services which will be held on Monday February 4, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at 
Mansfield Baptist Temple conducted by the Rev. Dale Adkins and Russell 
Elam. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions 
may be made to the Salvation Army or to Gideon King James Bibles.
