Funeral services were conducted for John David Birchfield, 83, at the Pyriton 
Baptist Church Saturday morning. The Rev. Dee Hurst, B. W. Mathews, and the Rev. 
Dr. J. W. Dean officiated. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery with Blair 
Funeral Home was in Mr. Birchfield died in Clay County Hospital Thursday morning 
following an illness of several Birchfield operated, a store in Pyriton before 
becoming a rural mail carrier. He was a mail carrier from the Pyriton Post 
Office for 30 years. He had been re tired from the mail route almost 20 years. 
He was an active member of the Concord Baptist Church for many years serving as 
Deacon and Sunday School Teacher for many years. He is survived by his wife, 
Mrs. Eulalia Birchfield, Pyriton; two daughters, Mrs. Robert Pittard, Ashland, 
Mrs. J.F. Barnes, Washington; D.C., one son, W. W. Birchfield, Montgomery; 14 
grandchildren, five great grandchildren, two brothers, J. O. Birchfield, 
Pyriton, A. A. Birchfield, Good water; five sisters. Mrs. Will Shultz, Mrs. V. 
L. Shaddix, Pyriton, Mrs. Dave McKay, Anniston, Mrs. Roy Denman, Heflin, and 
Mrs. Eula Markham, Chicago, IL. Pallbearers were Grady Sims, George Hardy, 
Wilmer Carpenter, Otis Headrick. Charlie Lett and Burl Lett. Honorary 
pallbearers were W. R. Ray, Lorenzo Gibson, Lee Carpenter. W.L. Wynn. M. W. 
Morgan, Jim McClellan, Sampson Sprayberry, Dr, George L. Beale, E. D. Riley, and 
J. H. Riley.
