Life Time Resident of Mahoning County
The funeral services attendant upon the burial f the venrable Mrs. Polly Pitts, 
whose death occurred at the 
home of her son-in-law, Christian Metzler, of North Lima, Monday, mentiond of 
which was made then, 
were conducted at that village Wednesday morning at 10:30 o’clock. Inturment was 
made at Zion church 
cemetery, New Middletown, where the remains of her husband were laid to rest 
some eighteen or twenty 
years ago
At the time of her death Mrs. Pitts was 97 years old and was a most remarkable 
woman in many respects. 
She was born near New Middletown, this county, where she spent, with the 
exception of the eight years last 
past, her whole life. She was perhaps the oldest resident of this county, when 
she was called to her reward. 
Than Mrs. Pitts it is doubtful if there was a better known, more respected 
residen in all Mahoning county, 
She bore the remarkable distinction of being the mother of four generations. 
Last year Mrs. Pitts and descendants representing five distinct generations, 
were in attendance at the Rub 
reunion held at North Lima. Among them were grand children of Mrs. Pitts, who 
were grandparents 
themselves.
Up to whithin a few days of her death Mrs. Pitts had never known a day’s 
sickness; she retained possession 
of all the faculties, red the daily papers and did all sorts of house work and 
always endoyed perfict health. 
She came from a family noted for its longevity, her mother reaching the advanced 
age of 102 years.
Three children, Mrs. Isaac Simmons of Borardman township; Mrs C. Metzler, of 
North Lima and Jacob 
Pitts, of New Middeltown, together with grand children, great grand children, to 
the number of many 
scores, survive her.
During all her long life time Mrs. Pitts never had but one picture of herself 
taken, of which the above 
shown is a copy.
