Mr. James will soon be eighty-one years old though he carries his age well and does not look to be over sixty. He told the writer that last year one of his hands came to him for a settlement and desired to quit. Mr. James took the hands’ place and worked regularly in the field with the other hands, keeping up his row. He has been a citizen of the county since 1830, fifty-six years ago, and only three years after the formation of the county. He is now afflicted with rheumatism in his knees, and says it is the result of his fondness for hunting in his early days when he engaged in many hotly contested races with broken-winged wild turkeys. We like to honor such old landmarks like Mr. James, who has gone great service to his fellowman and his God, and whose race has nearly been run Plantation for Sale See the advertisement of plantation for sale by Mr. Daniel James. Mr. James is a very old gentleman, unable to attend to business, which is his only reason for selling. The place is one of the best in the county, with all the necessary improvements, and those in want of a good place can’t do better. If you contemplate buying go out and look at the place. The Marion County Patriot, No. 20 Friday, May 14, 1886 Page Five Plantation For Sale I offer my plantation for sale which is situated six (6) miles from Buena Vista near Draneville. The place consists of 800 acres, about two-thirds of which is in a high state of cultivation, and the remainder good timbered land. The land is well watered, 7 tenement houses, 2 dwellings houses, 7 good wells of water, good orchards, gin house and screw in good condition and a nice fish pond. This is one of the best farms in the county, conveniently located to churches and school, and only one and half miles from Draneville, the nearest post office. The titles are perfect with no mortgages whatever on the place. My only reasons for selling is that I am getting too old to look after the business of the farm. Anyone who wants to purchase a good place are requested to correspond with me, or come and see for themselves. Daniel James Draneville, Ga. The Marion County Patriot, No. 41 Friday, October 8, 1886 Page Five Local Short Stops We call attention to the notice of public sale by Mr. Daniel James. He is selling out all his perishable property preparatory going to Texas, and no doubt bargains can be had. The Marion County Patriot, No. 43 Friday, October 22, 1886 Page Five Local Short Stops A large number of people attended the sale at Mr. Daniel James’ last Tuesday, and from parties who were there we learn that the property brought good prices.
