Tom Burton, the Lucky Man

Tom Burton, colored, of near Corinth Church, was the lucky man who received the
hundred dollars that was given for a bale of cotton taken to the Alliance
Warehouse. The number was unsealed and made public Tuesday, when the farmers
who had brought cotton to the Alliance Warehouse had come to town, anxious to
know if they held the lucky number and would get the money. The number was 788.

Burton is a sober, hardworking man, and for some weeks has been sick and needed
the money.
