Hogg Family Hold Reunion

J A Hogg of Marion County, Celebrates 83rd Birthday
Anniversary, Ninety-seven attend.


Buena Vista, GA, Jan 28 - One of the happiest events
to take place in Marion County in recent times was
the big reunion of members of the family of J A
Hogg, highly respected citizen of this county who
celebrated his 83rd  birthday last Sunday at the
home near Buena Vista.


Mr. Hogg is the father of ten children all of who
were present.


The children were David S. Hogg, Plains; Mrs. J T
Tyler and Dempse S. Hogg, Richland; Mrs. I H Hart, W
E Hogg and H C Hogg, Columbus; T A Hogg, Jackson
Miss;  J J (NOTE: no last name given) Atlanta; Mrs.
P H Monfort and C M Hogg, Buena Vista.


The Children-in-law were Mrs. David S Hogg, Mrs.
Dempse S Hogg, Mrs. C H Hogg, Mrs. C M Hogg, Mrs. J
J Hogg, Mr. I H Hart, Mr. P H Monfort, and J Tyler.


There were thirty four grandchildren and twenty
great grandchildren present.  The visitors were Mr
and Mrs. Taylor Hogg, Tazewell; Mrs. Laura Gordon;
Mrs. H M Perry and Miss Marjorie Perry, Richland; J
N Parkman and Mr Stradford, Columbus; Joe Crews,
Howden; Mr and Mrs. Alvin Crews, and little daughter
Shirley Ray and Mrs. Lula Chanee, Villa Rica; Paul
DaBranche, Jackson, Miss; MR and MRs. T D Mangum,
Charlie Parker, T W Upton Mrs. Minnie Lawhorn, Mr
and Mrs J T Montford, Ben and Archie Monfort, Buena
Vista.  Making a total of ninety-seven present 


Many beautiful gifts from the descendants and
friends mutely expressed tributes to love.


Mr and Mrs. Taylor Hogg of Tazewell, who were
present, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary
last year.

(NOTE:  I H Hart is Isaac Harvey Hart who married
Minnie Lelia Hogg.  Isaac is the son of Wiley and
Cornelia Daniel Hart)

DR. William A Drane Passes Early Monday


The passing of Dr. William Arthur Drane at six
o'clock at his home, Monday morning has thrown a
pall of gloom over the town.  His death was not
unexpected as he had been critically ill for more
thatn a week from an illness extending nearly a
year.  


Dr. Drane has been for 46 years an eminently
successful practionere in Buena Vista.  He was a man
of brilliant intellect and possessed many noble
traits of character.  HE was progressive and public
spirited and an outstanding citizen of the county.


Dr. Drane was particularly fond of children and his
gentleness in administering to their ills made him
beloved by all and his successful treatment of
children’s diseases gave him an extensive practice. 


Funeral services were held Tuesday morning from
residence which was attended by a large
representation of sorrowing friends and relatives.


A tender tribute was paid Dr. Drane by Hon Ed
Mathis, of Americus, who couched in lovely words the
affection existing between the two and called to
mind many noble virtues of the deceased. 


Rev C R McKibben, assisted by Rev G A Briggs
conducted the services.  Interment took place in the
family plat in the Methodist Cemetery. 


Dr. Drane was born on Oct. 27, 1860 and was a son of
William Margrauder Drane and Margaret Bryan Drane,
prominent families of the county.


In early life he was married to Miss Elizabeth Lou
Butt, a daughter of Judge Edgar M. Butt, a colonel
in the Confederate army, an ex-judge of the Superior
court of the Chattahoochee circuit and a leading
attorney in Middle West Georgia.  To this union six
children where born:  William E. Drane of Columbus,
Mrs. Mary Lou Drane of Ellaville, Mrs. Minnie Burt
of Americus, Mrs. Marguerite Lowe and Mrs. Elizabeth
McMichael, Buena Visa, and Dr. Arthur Hall Drane
(deceased).  His present wife who was Miss Suzanne
Bennett of Columbus.


He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. O C Bullock
and Mrs. E B Hornady of Columbus, 18 grand children
and 3 great grand children.


The following grandsons and nephews acted as pall
bearers; Horace Holmer Lowe, Frank Lowe, Jr. Arthur
Drane Jordan, Edgar and Joseph Drane and Floyd
Bullock.

CORINTH



Friends of little Herbert Jordan ragret to know he was carried
to Plains hospital. Sunday afternoon for an operation for
appendicitis. We wish for him a speedy recoverv

Mrs. J. J. Youngblood of Douglas, spent Tuesday and Wednesday
with relatives here.

Mrs. Eleanor Hart and son Ernest spent Sunday in Americus


Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Story .Jr. announce the arrival of a fine
daughter, who has been named Barabar Louise.  (NOTE:  This is
the way it was spelling in the paper.)

Friends of Mr. and Mrs. George Amos are glad to know that they
are able to be out again.


Miss Neta Hendrick spent severals days with friends here.

Several boys of this community spent several days last week on a
camp at Juniper.

Dr. and Mrs. Jim Chappell of Douglass, spent Tuesday with Mrs.
Henry Highnote at Draneville.


Mrs. Highnote returned home with them for a visit.

Mrs. L E. McClung and sons spent Wednesday with relatives at
Draneville
