At Rest!

“Mrs. Branch is dead!” Though this has been expected, the announcement caused
a shadow of gloom to come over all those who heard it. Mrs. Branch came to
Buena Vista the first of the year with her husband, Rev. C.H. Branch, who is
pastor of the Methodist church. Soon afterward she suffered from an attack of
the measles, and it was a relapse of this disease that caused her death. She
bore her sufferings long and patiently, until death came Tuesday morning and
bore her spirit to a brighter and better world. When first she came to Buena
Vista she was almost unknown, but her gentle, womanly modesty made for her a
friend of all whom she met, for to know her was to love her. Her mother had
been telegraphed for and attended her bedside in her last illness, and
surrounded by a loving mother, a devoted husband and four friends, her spirit
broke loose from its moorings of clay and returned to the God who gave it. Her
remains were taken to Winterville Wednesday morning for interment, a large
concourse of friends accompanying them to the depot. To the grief stricken
husband we would say, cheer up, she waits for you in heaven.
