Obituary - Mr. J. T. P. Austin Passes Away
  Tuesday morning at 4:30 o'clock at his home in this city occurred the death 
of Mr. J. T. P. Austin.  He had been feeble for a long while, due to his 
advanced years, but the immediate cause of his death was heart failure.  His 
last illness was for about ten days.
  Funeral services were held from the home Wednesday morning at eleven 
o'clock,conducted by his pastor, Rev. T. J. Branson, assisted by Rev. A. W. 
Quillian.
  A choir consisting of Mrs. Branson at the piano, Mrs. J. W. Grubbs and Mrs. 
Allie Atkinson, Mr. E. G. Atkinson and Mr. E. H. Wise sang favorite hymns -
"Lead, Kindly Light" and "It is Well With My Soul."
  There were many flowers, some of the offerings being exceedingly handsome.  
The pall bearers were Messrs. W. P. Beardon, T. H. Holland, W. E. Shepherd, W. 
T. Baugh, Dr. Dickens and W. T. Bacon
  Interment was in the family lot of the city cemetery, with Hemperley 
Undertaking Co., in charge.
  John T. P. Austin was the son of John and Mary Austin, and was born in Newton 
County, Ga., Jul 16th, 1847, being in the eighty-third year of his age.  While 
still a boy he enlisted in the Confederate army as a soldier in Company C, 
Second Georgia regiment, and for a while was a guard at Andersonville, Ga.
  After the war he was married to Miss Minnie Freeman, who survives him.  Other 
members of the immediate family are a son, Mr. Frank Austin, of Atlanta, and a 
niece and nephew, Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Strickland, Jr., of Cordele.  An only 
daughter, Irene Austin Fitzpatrick, died many years ago.  Surviving him also is 
a brother Mr. S. K. Austin, and a sister, Mrs. T. G. Swann, both of 
Stockbridge, Ga., and several nieces and nephews.
  In 1889 Mr. Austin moved from Henry county to Madison, where he has lived 
ever since.
  Members of the local chapter of U.D.C. and members of Morgan County Camp 
U.C.V. attended as honorary escort.
  A large crowd attended the funeral.
  Those attending the funeral from out of town were Mr. S. K. Austin, Mrs. T. 
G. Swann and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Stewart, all of Stockbridge, Mr. Lay Austin and 
Miss Elmira Austin and Mr. Alvin Alley, Atlanta, Miss Myra Kilpatrick and Mr. 
George Kilpatrick, Eatenron.
