Martie Lamar Boyd, 51, of West Berrien passed away Monday, June 2, 2008 at his 
residence, 3157 Barber Shop Road following a lengthy battle with cancer.
 He was born November 12, 1956, in Berrien County to Louise Rowan Boyd and the 
late Abner Boyd. He was a farmer. Tilling the earth, planting seeds, watching 
crops grow and harvesting the fruits of his labor gave him much joy and 
satisfaction. He also owned and operated Nashville Wood Products, a cabinet 
shop in Nashville, Georgia for several years. He was a member of the Berrien 
County Young Farmers, Georgia Farm Bureau and Vegetable Growers Association of 
Georgia. He was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church.
 He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Phyllis Mills Boyd, daughter and son-
in-law, Jennifer and Michael Jones; son, Martie Levi Boyd; mother, Louise Boyd; 
sister and brother-in-law, Debora and Kenneth Surface, all of West Berrien; 
brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Barbara Boyd of Nashville and brother and 
sister-in-law, USAF MSgt. Raymond and Tracy Boyd of Kadena AFB, Okinawa, Japan 
as well as a number of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
 The funeral service was held Thursday, June 5, 2008 at 4 p.m. at Flat Creek 
Baptist Church, Berrien County with Rev. Mickey Lindsey and Rev. Ronnie Lawson 
officiating. Prior to the funeral service, the funeral procession made a loop 
through the West Berrien community, past the Boyd home place and fields of 
produce he so dearly loved.
 Honorary pallbearers were Loss Boyd, Travis Boyd, Roger Connell, Dub Danforth, 
P.H. Danforth, Joe Dixon, Hubert Gilliard, Larry Lisenby, Harold Moore, Joey 
Moore, Carl Pafford, Paul Rosas, Danny Studstill, Reed Wilson.
 Active pallbearers were Mike Bonnett, Mel Browning, Robert Curry, Richard 
Luke, Cenobio OlGuin, Sammy Rogers.
 During the seating of the family, "Give Me Jesus" by Vince Gill was played. 
During the service New Tradition of Nashville, GA sang, "In My Life/If We Never 
Meet Again." The group also sang "When Crossing Time Shall Come" during the 
graveside service.
 Burial followed in the Flat Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
 Lovein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
