MRS. ELIJAH A. AYERS, 68, passed away at her home in Toccoa, Thursday, October
25th. She had not been well for some time, but had seemed greatly improved,
and her sudden death came as a great shock to her family and friends. She was
the former Timie Whitehead, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lewis
Whitehead. She had been a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church for almost fifty
years.
Mrs. Ayers was a good neighbor and was always deeply interested in the
welfare of her friends and loved ones. Her cheerful disposition, her spirit
of generosity and unselfishness were qualities that endeared her to everyone
who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Elijah Ayers; one sister, Mrs. Lucy Keener
of Franklin, NC and three brothers, Will, Robert and Henry Whitehead.
Funeral services were held at Ebenezer church Saturday afternoon at 2
o'clock with Rev. George Fuller and Rev. J. Robert Martin officiating. Music
was rendered by the church choir. Flower girls were Ruby Collins, Rachel
Collins, Louise Payne, Ollie Sorrells, Nazarie Summers and Marie Murray.
Pallbearers were five nephews, Roy Collins, Hoyt Collins, Dave Collins, Odell
Meeks, Lewis Whitehead and Dewey Smith.
Interment was in Ebenezer Cemetery.
