PETER MELCHIOR SR. IS NO MORE
Belle Plaine Resident Given Relief from illness of Over Twenty Years
Peter Melchior, Sr. passed away at his home in this borough on
Monday evening, Feb. 1, 1909. For 21 years he had been ailing from
general paresis, and for the last 18 years he had been confined to
his bed. Death brought relief to years of suffering and helplessness
such as is the lot of few in this world to bear. He was 57 years of
age. Mr. Melchior was a native of Trier, Germany, and came to this
country in 1865, locating in Chanhassen, Carver county. Six years
later he moved to Shakopee where he remained until 1867 when he
moved to Belle Plaine, and here he remained through his remaining
years. He is survived by his wife and nine children; namely, N.H.,
of Belle Plaine; Wm., of Frankford, Kans.; Mrs. Geo. Alstead, of
Minneapolis; Ben, of Belle Plaine; John, of Frankford, Kans.; Mrs.
Ben Quartman of St. Paul; Miss Sophia, of Minneapolis; and Peter and
Jos., who reside at home. The funeral will be held on Friday 10 a.m.
from St. Peter and Paul's church. All of the children have arrived
here except Wm. and John, who are expected today. Henry Osterfelt
and wife, of Waconia, are also here.
