Dena's biography can be found in the booklet: "A History of Pipestone County",
July 1984, written by the Pipestone County Historical Society -

Dena Bruns was born in Lyon County, Iowa to Dick and Anna (Venenga) Bruns,
January 16, 1894, near Little Rock, Iowa. She attended school through the
eighth grade. She had three sisters, Grace Bruns Kerkove; Sena Bruns Litchsinn;
and Anna Bruns Trigg. Her brothers were Frank Bruns and John Bruns of Verdi,
Minn. Her family lived in Lyon County, Iowa until 1911, then moved to Minnesota
near Hatfield.

While living north of Pipestone, in 1921, she married Otto H. Stoltenberg. He
had served in World War 1. She and Otto moved to the Trosky vicinity, where
their four children were born. Those children attended country schools at
Trosky and then District 9 after they had moved to Troy Township where they
lived for a few years. While they lived north of the K.T. Store and in the
vicinity of Verdi, Clifford and Lester went to school at Verdi. They later
moved to other farms in Troy township, Pipestone, MN.

Otto died in 1946. The family continued farming for 18 years after his death.
Then they had a farm sale and moved to Pipestone, Minnesota. Anna lives at home
and takes care of her mother. Clifford does trucking in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Lester lives at home but works at a farm.

Dena attended the Presbyterian Church when she was able. She is 89 years old
(in 1984) and her health is failing but she does many things for herself.
Arthritis and picking corn since the time she was six to sixty-six years, and
kneading "too many to count" loaves of bread have left their mark on her
hands."

Dena Bruns Stoltenberg died June 6, 1985 at Pipestone, MN. and is buried at the
Old Woodlawn Cemetery, Pipestone, Pipestone, Minnesota.
