Katherine Margaret Ketelsen was born July 14, 1850 at Kurburg, Schleswig-

She married Hans Klinker (b 1837 Klein Dannewerke, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany,
d September 21, 1887 same) on May 24, 1869 at Haddeby, Schleswig-Holstein,
Germany.
Katherine and Hans had 6 children(all born at Kurburg): (2 were stillborn, the
first, a daughter, both unnamed);
child #3: Margaret Haddie Klinker (b June 11, 1872, married John F Knuth
October 17, 1893 Huron, South Dakota, d June 17, 1945 Trosky, Pipestone, MN);
#4: Hans Emil Klinker (b July 29, 1875, married Emma M Arp November 22, 1901

The family farmed. After Hans' death, Katherine and sons tried to farm but it
was very hard. She married a second time to Heinrich (Henry) Brumm (b April 23,
1859 Rendsburg-Eckernforde, Germany, d October 12, 1931 Trosky, Pipestone, MN)
in 1890 at Kurburg. The couple did not have any children together. They lived
at Klein Dannewerke, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany when they decided to emigrate
to America.

After arriving in New York, the party traveled to Iowa, where Katherine's
brother, Peter and his family were. Believe they visited at Scott County, Iowa
and Tama County, Iowa. After short stays, they traveled on to Huron, South
Dakota where Margaretha Maria Ketelsen (Mrs Ferdinand August George Jebens),
(Katherine's sister) was living. They started their new life at Huron, South
Dakota. (Note: Katherine's mother may have died after they left Iowa, cannot
find her exact death date or place) and before they arrived at South Dakota, or
she died at South Dakota).
Katherine and family tried to make a living at Huron for about four years, but
work was scarce and there had been a drought. So the family decided to travel
by wagon train to look for work in the Western U.S about 1897. They traveled
through Nebraska, Montana, Oregon, Idaho and Utah but finally settled at or
near Baggs, Carbon, Wyoming where friends and relatives had already settled.
There were possibly Jons or Jebens men traveling with them.
Found in the 1900 census living at Election District #15, Carbon, Wyoming:
Henry Brumm 41, Catherine Brumm 49, Claus Klinker 20.
About 1903, most of the family moved east and settled near Trosky, Pipestone,
Minnesota.

Additional Comments:
Note, not to be printed on obit: The email address for a Brian at the
Pipestone County Gen Web site is dis-functional. I was trying to get him to
update a posting on the Pipestone site under "Surnames" as it has my name,
Deidre Badker, with a defunct email address (pitnet.net). Would like the
posting either removed or the email address updated to:
berniebadker@iowatelecom.net
If that is something you could do??? Thanks so much, Deidre Badker
