Family research
Richard Bernard Arp born October 3, 1879 near Keil, Schleswig-Holstein, 
Germany to Johan Christian Arp and Caroline Lena Wolgelhagen Schoel. He left 
Hamburg, Germany on March 25, 1885 to emigrate to America. He was traveling 
with his parents, siblings, and an aunt and uncle, Mr and Mrs Chris Wendorf. 
After arriving at New York City, the party boarded a train to travel to 
Davenport, Scott, Iowa where they lived about two years. The family moved in 
1887 to near Clutier, Tama, IA. and bought 160 acres to farm. 

Richard married Margaretha Bookmeier on December 18, 1909 near Clutier, Tama, 
IA. They had 4 children: 
Albert (born February 17, 1911 Oneida, Tama, IA, married Mauriene Lorna Selk 
January 25, 1950 Dysart, Tama, IA, died February 13, 1981 Waterloo, Black 
Hawk, IA).

Lillian L. (born July 5, 1912 Oneida, Tama, IA, married Walter A Lorenzen 
January 11, 1933 Tama, IA, died September 18, 2001, Dysart, Tama, IA.)

Walter Fred (born May 15, 1914 Oneida, Tama, IA, never married, no children, 
died October 1973). and

Leona D (born April 13, 1916 Oneida, Tama, IA, married Harold Wehrman 
September 5, 1936 Galena, Jo Davies, Illinois, died November 3, 2010 Belle 
Plain, Benton, IA). 

Richard Bernard Arp died October 15, 1950 at the Ashton Hospital in Pipestone, 
MN. Mr. and Mrs. Arp had came to Pipestone on the Wednesday before to visit 
with Richard's sister, Mrs. Walter Lorenzen. While visiting, he was taken to 
the hospital on Saturday. Mr. Arp had reached the age of 71 years. The body 
was taken to Dysart, Iowa where funeral services will be held on Tuesday. 
Relatives from Pipestone plan to attend. Buried at Dysart (or Oneida) 
Cemetery, Tama County, IA. 

The 1916 Oneida, Tama, Iowa Atlas shows Richard owning 160 acres next to Peter 
Tams and Carl Arp. Edward Arp also owns land near Clutier. 

Found in the 1895, 1910, 1915, 1920, 1930 censuses at Oneida, Tama, IA: 
1910: Richard, 30, Margaret 20, Herman 48. 1920: Richard Arp 40, Margaret Arp 
30, Albert J Arp 8, Lillian L Arp 7, Walter F Arp 5, Leona D Arp 3[3 9/12]. 

1930: Richard Arp 50, Margaretha Arp 40, Albert J Arp 19, Lillian L Arp 17, 
Walter F Arp 15, Leona D Arp 13.
