He emigrated from Hamburg, Germany March 25, 1885 and arrived at New York City in October 1885 after about 13 weeks at sea.. Ship name: Gellert; Shipping Line: Hamburg-Amerikanische Packetfahrt-Actien Gesellschaft; Ship type: Dampfschiff; Accommodation: Zwischendeck. Otto was traveling with his parents, Mr and Mrs Johan Christian Arp, and his siblings Henry Claudius, Emma Dorothea, Herman John, Carl William and Richard Bernhard and his uncle and aunt, Mr. & Mrs. Chris Wendorf. (Mrs. Chris Wendorf and Mrs. Johan Christian Arp were sisters.) After arriving, the party traveled by train to Davenport, Scott County, IA and lived there about 2 years. They then moved to between Dysart and Clutier in Tama County, Iowa. Found Otto in the 1895 census at Dysart, Tama, IA; in the 1900 census at Oneida, Tama, IA living on a farm. Otto moved to Minnesota and is found in the 1905 census at Luverne, Rock, MN. Other families from Tama County, Iowa had moved up to and around the Pipestone, Minnesota area. Otto married Martha Augusta Kolhcheen on February 27, 1907 at Hardwick, Rock, MN. They had 7 children. Otto farmed. Find the family in the 1910 and 1920 censuses at Denver, Rock, MN. Otto and Martha's seven children were: 1. Minnie Caroline (born January 8, 1908 Denver, MN, married Edmond Cyrus Carstensen Jan 4, 1928 Trosky, MN, died Nov 19, 1981 Pipestone, MN); 7 children. 2. Dora Martha (born March 9, 1909 Denver, MN, married Norval Richards April 22, 1930; 1 son; died November 10, 1951 Luverne, MN). 3. Ella Margarethe (born December 11, 1910 Denver, MN, married Harald Henry Walgrave April 4, 1934, 5 children. Married Emil J Vonderharr September 12, 1981 MN. Ella died June 16, 2007 Madison, Lac qui Parle, MN). 4. Herbert Otto (born September 8, 1912 Denver, Rock, MN, married Linda Miller June 6, 1953, died February 27, 1998 Santa Clara, California). 5. Emma Marie (born May 21, 1917 Denver, MN, married Wilbur Stamman June 30, 1940, died January 30, 2011 Cabot, Butler, Pennsylvania, 3 children). 6. Richard Christian (born March 3, 1921 Denver, Rock, MN, married Ruth Ann Kadinger October 7, 1950 Sioux Falls, S.D., died September 30, 2004 Luverne, MN, 4 children). 7. Marjorie Jane (born March 10, 1925 Luverne, MN, married Theodore Gunvaldson February 16, 1947; 15 children). Otto Christian Arp died January 6, 1951 at Luverne, Rock, Minnesota. Additional Comments: Martha Augusta Kohlcheen, Otto's wife, was born July 4, 1885 at Petersdorf auf Fehrman, Germany. Emigrated 1900. Died February 28, 1967 Luverne, Rock, MN.
