Family research
Herman John Arp was born Jan 24, 1872 near Keil, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany 
to Johann Christian Arp and Carolina Lena Wolgelhagen Schoel. 

He emigrated with his parents, leaving Hamburg, Germany to New York, USA on 
March 25, 1885 on the ship "Gellert"; Shipping Line: Hamburg-Amerikanische 
Packetfahrt-Actien Gesellschaft; Ship type: Dampfschiff; Accommodation: 
Zwischendeck. Family traveled on to settle at Davenport, Scott County, Iowa 
and lived there one year.

They then moved to Oneida township, Tama County, Iowa and can be found in the 
1895 census there living on a farm. 

Herman married Anna Katherina Krutzfeldt on March 7, 1896 at Tama County, IA. 
Couple lived near Dysart, Iowa about four years. Two children were born at 
Oneida township, Tama, Iowa: 
John Christian (born June 13, 1896 Tama, IA, married Anna Amanda Rath 
September 3, 1919 Luverne, Rock, MN, died July 8, 1976 Pipestone, MN)and 
Laura Margarethe (born March 10, 1898 Tama, IA, married Theodore Hans Oye 
September 5, 1916 Pipestone, MN, died March 13, 1986 Hardwick, Pipestone, MN). 
Family moved to Denver, Rock, MN in 1900. 

Family next moved to Elmer, Pipestone, MN where a daughter was born: 
Louise Caroline (born April 5, 1904, married Frank Frederick Brockberg 
December 6, 1922 Pipestone, died October 10, 1994 Hatfield, Pipestone, MN). 

Family found in 1905 to 1930 censuses at Elmer township. After Anna died in 
1939, Herman moved into the town of Trosky, MN and retired there. 

He died Nov 3, 1955 at the Flandreau Rest Home in Pipestone, MN after an 
illness of about five weeks. Funeral held November 7, 1955 at the Trosky 
Methodist Church. Buried at Trosky Cemetery, Trosky, Pipestone, MN. Six 
grandsons were pall bearers: six grandsons were the bearers:  Vincent and Oren 
Oye,  Myron Arp, and Harvey, Melvin, and Ivan Brockberg.

He was 83 years old; had 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren.
