Merlye Henry Raph



A Holland man was killed in a one-car accident five miles south of St. 

Cloud, Monday, at about 5:45 P.M.

Merlye Henry Raph was born March 2, 1904, in Grange Twp., Pipestone County, 

Minnesota, to Arthur Berton and Cora Mae (Zarn) Raph.  He lived in Grange 

Twp. his entire life.  He was united in marriage to Elsie Emma Augusta 

Schierholz on March 24, 1933, at Brookings, South Dakota.  He passed away on 

October 19, 1959, due to an auto accident near St. Cloud, Minnesota.  He 

reached the age of 55 years, 7 months, 17 days.



According to local authorities, Merlye Henry Raph, 55, probably had suffered 

a heart attack shortly before the accident and it is not known whether he 

had died of the heart attack or as a result of the accident.



Mr. Raph, who was a contractor building grain elevators, had been working on 

an elevator in Clear Lake, Minnesota a town about 12 miles southeast of St. 

Cloud.  The accident occurred on Highway 152 near Augusta about five miles 

south of St. Cloud.  Mr. Raph's Plymouth rolled over several times when it 

ran off the highway, and he sustained a broken neck as a result of the 

accident.



Mr. Raph is survived by his wife; one son, Eldo of Shelby, Montana; one 

daughter, (Carol) Mrs. Harvey Zeinstra of Pipestone; his mother, Mrs. Cora 

Raph of Pipestone; two brothers, Elmer of Pipestone and Roy of Pine River, 

Minnesota; two sisters, Mrs. Gladys (Frank) Griebel and Mrs. Addie (Walter) 

Litka of Pipestone; four grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his 

father and three brothers Frank, Willis and Jesse.



Services Thursday, Oct. 22, 1959, 2:00 p.m. Presbyterian Church, Holland, 

Minnesota.

Organist: Mrs. Marlin Van Dyke

Final Resting Place: Ruthton Cemetery, Ruthton, Pipestone County, Minnesota.
