Elizabeth A. "Betty" Zupec, age 75 of Ely dies



  Elizabeth A. "Betty" Zupec, age 75 of Ely died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007 in 

the Ely Bloomenson Hospital. 

  She was born December 17, 1931 in Ely the daughter of John and Anna 

(Gasperich) Svetin, Sr. She was a 1949 graduate of Ely Memorial High 

School and received her degree from Vermilion Community College in 1981. 

Betty married Joe Zupec in 1952 and was a homemaker. 

  She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Ely VFW Auxiliary, 

Slovenian Women's Union, SNPJ Lodge, Ely Senior Citizens, Yugoslav 

National Home, and Slovenian National Benefits Society. 

  Betty is survived by children: Jeanie of Hilltop, MN, Jobee (Brenda) 

Zupec of Mt. Iron and Teri (Allen) Portinen of Maple Grove; 

grandchildren: Brooke, Kelcee, Carly, Jace, and Michael; brothers: Joseph 

Svetin and William Svetin; and several nieces and nephews.

  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Joseph in 1971; 

brothers: John and Frank; and sisters: Mary, Angela and Mildred.

  A memorial mass was held on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007 in St. Anthony's 

Catholic Church in Ely. A spring inurnment will be held in the Ely 

Cemetery.

  Memorials are preferred.

  Family services provided by Kerntz Brothers, A Bauman Family Funeral Home 

in Ely.
