Molly Zupancich, 90, passed away Sunday, March 7, 2004, in the Ely-
Bloomenson Nursing Home. 

She was born Aug. 3, 1913, in Ely to Charles and Mary (Ballas) Merhar. 
She graduated from Ely Memorial High School in 1931. She married Edward 
Zupancich on Aug. 12, 1935, in Ely. Molly worked at Zup’s Store until 
1957 and was a partner in Zup’s Trucking Co. She was a member of St. 
Anthony’s Catholic Church and was president of the Red Cross Volunteers 
for 30 years. She was named volunteer of the year and was active in the 
Hospital Auxiliary, Catholic Council, Women Foresters, Veterans of 
Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Slovenian Choir and the Zveja. She was an 
avid sports fan and loved watching her children and grandchildren 
participate in their activities. She enjoyed many summers at Farm 
Lake, spending time with her family and friends, picking blueberries, 
enjoying her flowers, working crossword puzzles and “humdingers’’ of
jigsaw puzzles. 
She is survived by a daughter, Theresa Jamnick, of Ely; sons, Edward 
(Judy) Zupancich of Silver Bay, Bernard (Sandy) Zupancich of Silver 
Bay, Paul (Pat) Zupancich of Ely and Robert (Deb) Zupancich of Ely; 
grandsons, Joe Jamnick, John Jamnick, Mike Jamnick, Matt Jamnick, 
Edward Zupancich, Tom Zupancich, Brian Zupancich, Chris Zupancich 
and Bob Zupancich; granddaughters, Theresa Harris, Ann Johnson, 
Maureen Zupancich-Kemp, Toni VanEyll and Leslie Zupancich; 16 great-
grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Lorriane Zupancich and Margie Zupancich; 
cousins, Jennie Folio and Mimmie Novak; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward; 
brother, Charles Merhar; sisters, Ann Vesel, Mary Palcher and 
Christine Tekautz; son-in-law, Joe Jamnick; and granddaughter, 
Patricia Jean Jamnick. 

Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday at St. Anthony’s 
Catholic Church in Ely, with the Rev. James Scheuer as celebrant. 
Burial will be in the Ely Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial 
fund will be set up for Ely High School Athletics. Services provided 
by Kerntz Brothers Funeral Home, a Bauman Family Funeral Home.
