Elizabeth A. Vos, 95, of Virginia dies



  Elizabeth A. Vos, 95, of Virginia died Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at the 

Edgewood Vista in Virginia, MN. 

  Elizabeth was born Jan. 27, 1910, in Huntingdon, PA, to William H. and 

Anna Laura (Burns) Aughey. 

  She received a state scholarship to attend Juniata College and graduated 

with a degree in chemistry in 1930. In 1935, Elizabeth went to work for 

the Bureau of Standards in Washington, D.C. She later transferred to the 

Food and Drug Administration, where she participated in early research 

on vitamins. 

  Elizabeth married Bert J. Vos on Oct. 1, 1944, in Washington, D.C. She 

and her family were longtime residents of McLean, VA. Elizabeth moved 

with her husband to Virginia, MN in 1994. 

  Elizabeth enjoyed classical music, gardening, bird watching, hiking, 

rock climbing and other outdoor activities. She was a Girl Scout leader 

and an active member and supporter of the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club 

and the National Audubon Society. In addition, she was active in 

wildflower conservation in areas undergoing urban and suburban development. 

  Survivors include her husband, Bert J. Vos of Virginia; two daughters, 

Margaret Vos of Ely and Betty Vos (Robert Coates) of Mason City, IA; 

and grandson, Justin Coates of Brooklyn, NY. 

  Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers.

  Private family services will be held at a later date.
