Franklin "Sonny" Streit, 86, of Ely, dies

Franklin "Sonny" Streit, 86, of Ely, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, in the 
Ely Bloomenson Nursing Home.

He was born July 2, 1918, in Woodstock, IL, to Peter and Lillian (Kautz) 
Streit. He married Dorothy Homfeldt on Aug. 31, 1946. Frank lived in the 
Elgin, IL, area most of his life and worked as a carpenter for 33 years. 
He retired in 1992 to the Ely area. He was and Army veteran of World War 
II, having served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater as a mechanic for five 
years. Frank was a member of the VFW in Illinois and attended the First 
Congregational Church in Elgin.

Frank is survived by a son, David of Ely; grandchildren, Peter Franklin 
David Streit (Amy Larsen) of Duluth, Christa Lee Streit of Ely; great-
grandson, Jeremiah Larsen of Ely; brothers, Howard (Marion) of MO and 
Walter Leo "Bill" (Margene) of WI; sisters, Dorothy Hamilton of CA, 
Geraldine Carty of AZ, Marion (Joe) Cornier and Betty (Ed) Van Broeck of 
IL; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy, in March of 1991; 
son, Dale, in October of 1990; brothers, Harold, Ray, Robert and Peter; 
and sisters, June Gondos and Doris Marvin.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday in the Kerntz Funeral 
Home Chapel in Ely. Services will be Thursday at the Laird Funeral Home. 
Burial will follow in the Lake Street Memorial Cemetery. Family Services
